Aren't we playing Texas in a couple hours?

To only be up one against a poor team like Texas is a bad sign. Texas was horrible last year and was expected to be horrible again this year. To have a close game against a team deemed horrible by the prognosticators is ominous.

We don't know how good Texas is. They have not played anyone this year but they have handled their business so far. Their early season RPI is 27... They have good athletes on their front line. I think BYU wins this by 6-8 points.

In all seriousness, Texas is big and athletic. It's giving us problems. The are doing a nice job converting offensive rebounds into easy buckets. I thought we were going to see more man defense this year, but maybe after the Nate Austin Post Defense Debacle, Rose has just lost interest in man.

Texas is also hurting us fast breaking off our long pass turnovers.

It seems as if they are playing down to the competition.

Our best offensive weapon and all america candidate is clearly not himself. But we are still up on a very athletic team that is taking advantage of the way the game is being called. Carlino and Mika are playing great. If Haws can get on track even a little bit and we hit free throws we will cruise in the second half.

We are not rebounding well out of the zone and Texas is being allowed to come over our backs for offensive rebounds. They need to be more aggressive on the box out but it is a much more difficult thing to do out of a zone.

The zone works as Texas is a bad shooting team but the only way they are in this is due to their Offensive Rebounding. We have to box out and have more people crash the boards. Texas basically saw tape of the Iowa State game and is doing the exact same thing that the cyclones are doing and are really crashing the boards. BYU is trying to box out from under the basket. It doesn't work that way.

I don't like us using the zone because we often fail to block out when we zone. However, outside of Mika, we have no big who can play defense.

First things Haws needs to do is start seeking out contact. These refs have quick whistles and an aggressive team/player will get to the line. Put the Texas bigs in a bit of foul trouble and watch their rebounding effectiveness suffer.
