Aren't we playing Texas in a couple hours?

We played like crap. We can't seem to rebound out of the zone. And we had to play zone because we couldn't matchup with Ridley, Holmes or Ibeh. As a result we got killed on the glass. They had 17 offensive boards to our 7. On top of that we had some really silly turnovers, 16 in all. But this was a game we need to learn to win when we're not playing well. Texas isn't that good. But it feels like we always seem to drop these kinds of games. I'm glad that the Cougars finally gutted one out.

One noticeable improvement from the Iowa State game to this one was BYU's free throw shooting %. They made 71% of their FTs last night compared to 60% vs. ISU. Shooting 70% from the charity stripe against Iowa State would have given us two more points off of FTs, the difference for the game. As it stands right now BYU is making 67% of its FTs. I think we need to get it above 70% if we want to have a hope of winning the close ones we'll be in this year.

Luke is always good for some comedic relief during stressful moments. I always get a laugh when he posts up and calls for the ball down low. He clearly has position, he's waving his arm to signal that hes ready....meanwhile everyone is swinging the ball around the perimeter pretending not to see him and Rose is hoping that Carlino settles for a 30 footer rather than passing it to Luke to attempt a layup.

Im playing a mental game of Luke bingo this season, trying to see how many new ways Luke's layups can go awry.

So far this season, I've seen Luke's layups:
1. Hit the bottom of the backboard
2. Hit the side of the backboard
3. Hit the back of the hoop at a 180 degree angle
4. Hit nothing (very high degree of difficulty for a layup)
5. Get swatted away

Oddly enough, im not sure I've seen any of his layups go through the hoop, although I could be mistaken because he did score one basket a few games ago.

Hoping to see a layup hit the top of the backboard and also hit the back side of the backboard. Lots of season left to go, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The thing I like about Luke (and by "like", I mean "watch with bemused wonder") is his unbridled confidence. Ridley and the other big guys have been swatting balls away from actual offensive threats all game, then Luke gets the ball twice in a row down low and says to himself "I am going to take this right at Ridley". Even AFTER he gets it swatted in his face the first time, the very next time down the court he does exactly the same thing. You have to admire that kind of self-confidence.

It may be hyperbole, but Worthington has to be one of the worst college basketball players I've ever seen. He can't even stand still and take a charge. Shitty players are always good at taking charges. He had a couple plays last night where he had great position for charges, but couldn't stand there. A layup is at least twice as difficult as standing still. No wonder he can't make layups.

On the one hand, I completely agree with you. He has position, and then he does that little move where he turns sideways and puts his hip into the guy barreling down at him. I don't know if he doesn't want to get hit, but he needs to stop it. On the other hand, I do think that his defensive post game shows some promise. I think Mika is better at help defense and being a force in the lane, but Luke is not bad at holding a guy up in the post.

I wanted to compare him to Jake Schoff, but Schoff could actually play. If we had Schoff, teams couldn't muscle us around. Luke works hard, but would be pushed around by Rudy.

Carlino held down the fort the first half until Haws stepped up and put this team on his back as the prime time player he is.

Also, while if I had to make a prediction right now, I would agree that Texas isn't that good, the fact is we don't know that yet. Texas might be a really good team - time will tell.

To be the worst player to put on a BYU uniform, it takes mental deficiencies in addition to physical. This was a great decision. Easy layup with his right hand. Instead, goes under the basket where Ridley is standing with his left to offer up the rejection.

I replayed that fake pass Haws threw to confuse Ridley about 5 times. It was awesome because Ridley was so misdirected that he didn't know what was going on until after the ball dropped through the hoop. His team started transitioning to offense before he realized what had happened. And then the announcers said something like "Awww, a guard has no right doing that to the big fella." Like candy from a baby.
