Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

UMASS guard Derrick Gordon comes out.

I have followed Derrick Gordon since his high school days. I know a few people on here watched the documentary "Prayer for a Perfect Season" about the St. Patrick boys basketball team. The star on that team was Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Whenever I saw St. Patricks on TV I was blown away by how good Derrick Gordon was. I was shocked when he signed with Western Kentucky. He had some big time offers and throughout the entire documentary he just seemed to want more out of life than basketball.
After a year at Western Kentucky the coaching staff left and he decided to transfer to UMASS, he started this past season for UMASS and averaged 10 points per game. This kid blows up every stereotype with regards to homosexuality. Grew up in the ghettos of New Jersey, star athlete, run ins with gangs. He is a real life Omar.
.
This also means an openly gay athlete will play in the Marriot Center next year.Last edited by cougjunkie; 04-09-2014, 07:51 AM.*Banned*

That's awesome. While the goal is obviously for this kind of thing to not be news anymore, I'm glad to see so many athletes coming out lately.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostUMASS guard Derrick Gordon comes out.

Saw the interview on ESPN today with Derrick Gordon -- sounds like the reaction from his teammates was "no big deal." It's a really good thing for the African American community to have even a couple of athletes coming out like this. Really I think it will make a huge difference for a lot of gay AA kids and their families to see the stigma of being gay gradually subside as more athletes come out.Originally posted by woot View PostThat's awesome. The shower thing still gets me. The common argument seems to be "well, maybe I'm not interested in you, so why would I look?". I don't buy that argument at all. I'm only interested in my wife, but that doesn't mean that seeing other women naked wouldn't cause a burning in the loins.
Honestly I think that the best solution is shower stalls for everyone. I'm not interested in men and I would really like it if I didn't have to see naked men in the periphery as I shower at the gym.
