If Carlino from the NIT had showed up during the 2nd half of the season and in the WCC tourney, BYU would've made the big dance.

Nice to know he and Haws have a couple more years together - just need a little consistency. The guard line seems to be in good hands, need to shore up the inside.

You know Mercer is a nobody because Zylstra is dropping 3's on them like nobody's business.

And I enjoyed Walton's schtick tonight. I particularly enjoyed him getting on the nerves of the play by play guy - because that guy was a flat out dick. He might not have been excited to be working with Walton, but he didn't need to turn into a Jr. High kid with his insults at the guy. I thought Walton took it all very well.

Here's hoping that this BYU team can travel to Mississippi rather than have their doppelgangers play that showed up in Vegas.

Carlino replaced Jimmer and has a somewhat similar style so the comparison was too easy which led to fans getting more debbiedowner on Matty than they should have . Throw in the injuries to Rogers and Collinsworth and the fact that Demarcus Harrison flopped at BYU, and for BYU to be a decent team Carlino had to really perform at at high level the past two years. At times Matty did that but at other times he struggled and it got to him mentally. I admit I am an optimist but I think it not too homerish of a perspective to believe that we will see much more of the Matt Carlino of the last two games the next two years than the bad MattyC. I think he will be a solid 13-15 ppg each of the next two years.

I loved Bill Walton. He is the first commentator I have heard make it so clear that the best BYU hoopster of all time was the great Kresimir Cosic. I think it is CougarJazzFan and myself, and the really old folks like PAC or '71, that occassionally have to remind the younger generations that Ainge and Jimmer were great no doubt, but Kresimir is the greatest to ever wear a BYU uniform. Fabulous and enormously interesting life story. He is an ethnic Croat but when I was in that land in the wake of their efforts to eradicate one another from the earth I was amazed by how much even the gawdless Serbs loved Kresimir. Perhaps it was their fond memories of the days when their kids could walk in the streets without being worried about stepping on a landmine, but even the Serbs adored Kresimir.

That sure sounded to me like two guys who are friends and work together a lot. It was pretty clear that a lot of the "insults" were long running jokes between them. I think it's just their schtick that Bill is the drunk uncle with no filter and the other guy pretends to be annoyed and reign him in.

Edit: I hear Walton do Kings broadcasts fairly quite often. He still goes off on his tangents, but he's much more reserved (professional?) when doing his NBA work. I think his NIT work is almost 50% comedy, but I'm one who enjoys it. The guy also knew more BYU hoops history than most Y fans, and I mostly enjoyed the lessons.

Yeah he's clearly sort of making fun of the NIT generally.

I liked when they were talking about the higher seeded team playing at home and he says something like , "See, the regular season DOES matter in college basketball."

This has devolved into an endless tit for tat.

I thought that most of the banter between the two was OK. But there were periods of time that the play by play guy would hit Bill with one shot right after another - to the point that he was doing that more than announcing the game even. A joke here and there I'm fine with - and Walton was even fairly self deprecating throughout, which fit well. But there were times that it was too much all at once.

I also appreciated Bill's knowledge - or at least his effort to do some research and know what he was talking about - as far as BYU, Utah (the state), and the state of basketball in the state. He's a goofball prone to hyperbole, but he is also either fairly intelligent with a great memory or he has a couple of staff talking into his headset with all kinds of random info.

That was a fun game. I'm glad to see that Davies is going out playing some of his best basketball. Thanks for sticking around through the Provo Witch Trials and thanks for the mammories, Brandon.

I don't like our odds tonight in Hattiesburg. I am surprised that Vegas only has the line at -3 for Southern Miss. BYU needs to play like they did against Mercer to win. It will be a tough road game tonight and we'll have to close out as this is a team that can shoot over the zone. I really want this team to get to MSG. And I want Rose to have another 25 win season. The tourney streak may be done, but that one is still out there for the taking.
