    Big East is no more...

The Big East Conference, the only to send three teams to a Final Four, will announce Thursday that its non-FBS programs are splitting from their brethren, sources told The Post.

The presidents of the seven schools that don’t play big time football - DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova - are holding a teleconference with Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco Thursday.
That pretty much kills the Big East as far as basketball goes. It is already dead as a football conference.

You're right. We don't have 2 threads dedicated to this topic.

So is Gonzaga going to join up with Big East basketball schools? These teams are supposedly courting Gonzaga and St. Mary's.

I'm for going back to the MWC if that happens, at least with non football sports to counter Hawaii there or something.
Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I don't think that's an option, is it?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Why? Because Thompson said he didn't want any schools for non football only?

              Please..

I have no idea. Hair Thompson seems pretty set upon not getting bossed around by BYU. Hawaii needs a counter to their football only membership.

How about a little BYU too? Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Villanova, St. John's, Georgetown, Providence -- I'll take it.

I feel bad for UConn and Cincy.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
