  • Zags beat Xavier at Xavier

Full-Strength tonight. Xavier was #7 just 2 wks ago.

Gonzaga has wins over Wash St, Notre Dame, Butler, Arizona, Oral Roberts, Xavier, et al this season.

    They are Top-12 RPI.

    Good news for WCC.

BYU might have a chance to make the Tourney if they beat Gonzaga this season. At this juncture, it'd be a "signature" win.

Congrats to the zags! This will just make our win over y'all that much better.

I was about to say the same thing.

That top 5 RPI for the WCC doesn't look like it is going to happen this year higherroad. However, top 10 is looking like could happen, so that is something to be proud of. Congrats on being the 3rd best conference in the west.

Not sure why Oral Roberts is included in this list, but I think that is a pretty impressive non-con schedule. Especially since they are all Ws.

We might want to try not getting run out of one of these small gyms before we run any more conference smack.

Did I miss something? Was I watching a game where we had any sort of answer to the guards that lit us up? Unless we figure out something quick, we're looking at four losses in this little conference that we're far too good for.

And at this point--yeah, Gonzaga would be our signature win. I guess we can *hope* the selection committee says, "yeah, but they were super duper close to beating Baylor at home! And have you seen their arena?"
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Um...PAC is kind of shooting for top 10 RPI too.

Of course, without the recent additions...

Actually, the selection committee does take into account the nature and quality of the loss, so our loss to Baylor is a pretty "good" loss, if you have to have one. The utah state loss looks awful now.

I don't see St. Mary's being quite as successful at the MC, especially in regards to all those stupid foul calls they were getting. We will get those calls at home.

What we saw yesterday and the rest of this week is the substance of the WCC. Crappy teams. I think we will have a better idea by th end of this week....LMU on the road and SF at home. If we can't win out this week, then you are correct, the WCC complaints should cease.

I'm predicting a split with gonzaga and st. Mary's.

Is this really true? How do you know this?
I'm not sure anyone really knows what goes on behind closed doors, but the stats that always get paraded around seem to be: last 10, quality wins, road record. I never see anything about quality losses. I don't doubt they're considered peripherally, but they're rarely talked about in the media. Right now, we don't really have a quality win, do we?

And I'm certainly not arguing that this is more than a 3-team conference. But there are plenty of teams with a bigger history than ours that have done just fine in crappy conferences--Xavier and Memphis come to mind.

And what's our other option? MWC football is horrid next year, and we would have a good chance of taking 4th in their Bball conference this year--no NCAA tournament.

EDIT: Because I know DDD will be all over this, I accidentally typed Villanova the first time...meant Xavier.

Difference is this is a down year for the Pac-12 and being 9th or 10th is really bad for the Pac-12. For the WCC, it would be a huge accomplishment for them to get to 10.

                          Update:

Good news for BYU's schedule & Tourney Resume as Gonzaga currently has #7 RPI rating(on CBS & Real-time), which is a primary reference tool the Committee adores for at-large consideration and seeding.

BYU is around #60 RPI, thus a Top-25 or Top-50 RPI win is considered 'signature' by the NCAA Selection.

That is a huge win Xavier is red hot and has only lost 4 of 5 games. Congrats on playing your 2nd road game 15 games in to the season. Also congratulations on evening your road record at 1-1.
