  • BYU vs Cal State: San Marcos

CSSM is 6-7 and they are coming in to the game having lost 5 of 6 games. This includes a 94-50 loss at UNLV, as well as a 63-55 lost to Azusa Pacific (notable because that is where David Burgess transferred and flamed out).

Head coach at CSSM is Jim Saia who must have coached at UCLA at one time or another because his list of achievements includes coaching the following players: Baron Davis, Dijon Thompson, Toby Bailey, Earl Watson, Jason Kapono, Jelani McCoy, JR Henderson, Ed O'bannon, Charles O'bannon, Cedric Bozeman and Ryan Hollins.

Looking at the roster they have 1, yes 1 player that signed with them out of high school. Every other player on the roster is a transfer. The majority from JCs, but they also have transfers from CS-bakersfield (shout out to Tick), CS-Fullerton (shout out to Aaron Rowand) as well as Fresno State, University of Pacific, and Northern Arizona.

They actually have 4 guys averaging at least 13.2 per game. They are lead by Tim Steed a 6'5 guard who transferred from Fresno State, he is averaging 17 per while shooting 48% from the floor and 41% from 3.

    They have decent size starters go: 6'7, 6'5, 6'5, 6'3 and 6'9.

Bottom line is they are terrible and I expect Zylstra to have another 20+ point outing against a bad team and K-dog to get all hot and bothered by it. I also expect CSSM to come out red hot and some random white guy to hit about 4 threes in the first 5 minutes. BYU will eventually wear them down and I expect double digit minutes out of Martineau.

It would be nice if Harrison can get a whole bunch of minutes. Hopefully, he can settle down and have a good game against a team like this.

He needs to practice squaring up on the run. His shot never looks the same...well except for the result. When he figures that out and continues to use his athleticism to get to the rim he'll be fine. Really pressing right now which is the hallmark of a freshman playing limited minutes.

I predict Nate Austin will get minutes, and will look super good against mediocre talent.

BYU playing down to their competition right now. Win by 30.

Someone told Austin to not give up position on defense. At least he's working hard down there this game.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Who's the guy doing color commentary for this game? Is it Steve Cleveland? kind of sounds like him.

10 TO and just 5 assists. Yikes.

For the first time in Coach Rose's tenure 3 teams in a row have shot 50% or better. That ends tonight against an atrocious San Marcos team.
