  • Tim Floyd: Fight Gone!

Looks like Floyd will be the new coach at Arizona. he flew there this afternoon in a private plane. SC has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow.

How common is it for a head coach to go immediately from one school to another but still stay in the same conference? Assistant coaches get promoted often, but is it as common for head coaches?

Wow. Nice hire for Arizona. How the hell is Arizona taking USC's coach?
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Kinda weird. I think in the long run, it is easier to recruit for Arizona than for SC basketball (although it should not be that way given SC's geographic location and national prominence).

Floyd took SC to 3 NCAA tourneys and a Sweet 16 spot. He is a good coach and a good recruiter. Good get for U of A.

There's no reason other than tradition it should be easier to recruit at Arizona. He was recruiting like crazy at USC. All USC needs is a coach to give them a stron run. It has all the makings. What a great job for someone like Villanova's coach.

SC has a few great things going for it right now...

          1. A respectable run over the past 4 years
          2. A REALLY good team if everyone comes back next season (which they may not)
          3. The ability to throw ridiculous money at potential hires
          4. No matter who they bring in, the new guy will always be the Second Biggest Man on Campus, because right now LA is Pete's world and nothing is changing that in the near future. SC is and always will be a football school first. The reason this is good is that it allows the new coach to come in and operate a bit under the radar. The paps follow Pete around town, not sure they followed Tim Floyd anywhere. Contrast this to a Calipari situation where the entire state is basketball crazy and calling him the Savior of Kentucky Basketball. That is a lot of pressure for the new guy.

At least he stays in the P10 so I still have a chance to learn what he has written on that paper he holds during the games!

I wonder if Few turned down Arizona or if they just wanted a coach that could win at a big conference level? Floyd is a better coach than Few. Any rumor on who USC is going after?

              Nothing yet.

My main concern when I found out was to make sure that those 2 chicks that walked the sidelines with stat sheets were not transferring to Arizona, as well. Fortunately, they decided to remain at SC.

Andy Katz just said on Sportscenter that Jamie Dixon is probably the lead candidate. How about that, Ben Howland's assistant and heir at Pitt now becomes his cross town rival?

                  My question....

How has someone not snatched up Lon Kruger yet?

UNLV goes down the tubes if they do.

Basketball is #1 at Arizona. It will never get top billing at USC.

I think Wright may have gone to UofA if they were knocked out early. But he can now draw talent from arguably the best recruiting base in the country with the same pull of the best basketball schools on the East Coast

Press conference for this morning has been canceled.

LA Times is reporting that Floyd left Arizona without formally accepting. AZ gave him 24 hours to decide.

Hmm.....I wonder if Floyd is trying to parlay his 3 tourney appearances into an impromptu raise at SC?

I don't understand Kruger worship by BYU and Utah fans.

Basketball gets top billing at these schools? Sure it does.
