I have always respected Izzo as one on the great in game coaches who runs his program the right way. I wouldn't mind seeing him get the brass ring again. Certainly more than any team left in it.

I was thinking the same thing. Izzo is a very good coach -- his teams play incredible team defense.

Also, I'm currently in 3rd place out of 50 in my office pool and I have the Spartans going to the final four, so that's nice.

That might be the only thing that could make me take back all the nice things I said.

Rule #6 in Bracketology 101: MSU always goes at least one round further than you think they will.

          I have them FF too.

People often throw "he was outcoached" around a little too loosely, I think. But the Louiville-MSU game today was a classic instance of outcoaching at every level. MSU was far better prepared. It's like we used to see with the Utes under Majerus. Go out and make the other team play your game, part and parcel of which is hard nosed man to man defense. How pathetic was Pitino saying his high flying guys had gotten too used to playing against zones. Then when they were taken out of their game and were feeling rattled, Pitino, apparently, completely botched the emotional/psychic part of the game. Izzo is the new Bobby Knight.

Pitino to Arizona, Izzo to Kentucky, Boylen to MSU.

C'mon, you think that much Izzo has rubbed off on Boylen?

Katy, I know you think Boylen's a clod hopper. You should ask yourself if that's because of his ingrained working class mannerisms.

MSU wouldn't hire Boylen now. It's too early. But he's shown me nothing but promise of success. That he's an Izzo protege says something.

That's kind of what I meant about the rubbing off. I don't think Boylen has established himself as the heir apparent to Izzo.

Hmmmm. I probably should answer yes to the clod hopper characterization. But not because of his blue collar. Because he wears his heart on his sleeve. Because he lets his emotions override his judgement when choosing lineups and working the refs. Because I have personally heard his high pitched undignified shrill squeal into the microphone imploring people to support his team more times than I care to remember. But I also have said (elsewhere) he deserves to be Coach of the Year for what he's accomplished, and for the discipline he's imposed upon a team reeling from the Red Jacket years.

Everything I'm hearing indicates Michigan St loves Jim Boylen, and all things considered, he could very well be the next in line.

You mean like Donovan loves Kentucky so much he wants to leave Florida for it?

Boylen to Michigan State isn't going to happen this year. If it does, good for him, but it won't.

I doubt Izzo is going to Kentucky either, though.

                              Calipari will. A perfect match.
