The worst, most ridiculous fire I've ever seen. I almost wish Utah were in the market for a coach. I'd love to have that guy but he's probably way too upmarket for the Utes. Kentucky deserves failure.

Wasn't he only there for two years? That just seems a little ridiculous to me. Then again, maybe he's like Bobby Knight and won't recruit the kids that only want to play a year or two and IMO that's a huge mistake.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostThe worst, most ridiculous fire I've ever seen. You're better off just recruiting the best kids you can get your hands on. The leave early kids either end up being superstars like Derrick Rose or they realize they need to stay around a little longer. Even the kids that stick around a little longer usually more talented than the kids that plan on staying all four years from the getgo.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Tubby Smith should still be the HC in Lexington.
That being said, Gillespie will land at a mid-level BCS job and do a really good job, while Donovan will take the UK job and move them closer to where they aspire to be."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Donovan didn't even make it to the NCAA playoffs the last two years. He hasn't even done as well as Gillespie the last two years. HE SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostTubby Smith should still be the HC in Lexington.

Seriously, why woud Donovan go to Kentucky? What has he got to prove or accomplish? When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Donovan has always stated Kentucky is his dream job. He played for Rick Pitino at Providence, and was an assistant in Lexington for three years. He nearly took the job when it opened up two years ago, but the back-to-back titles at Florida kept him here.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostDonovan didn't even make it to the NCAA playoffs the last two years. The upper echelon schools all seem to eventually miss the forest for the trees.
Being top tier doesn't mean that you can legitimately compete for a NC every year. Nobody can do that. It does mean that more often than not, you are in contention for a title.
Some of these schools freak out if they aren't destroying everybody and going to the title game every other year.
If your team can legitimately contend for a title every 3 or 4 years, that is pretty amazing in any sport.
No wonder there is so much disloyalty in the player and coaching ranks these days. The schools that house these folks are just as treacherous.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I'm for anything happening that hurts Kentucky basketball. And I willingly admit that it's because I don't like that Utah was/is UK's bitch in basketball.

I think Bilas made a good point about the timing of this firing (after just two years) if you're going to do it eventually, you might as well do it now...Gillespie was probably in over his head and Kentucky is quickly turning into the basketball equivalent of Nebraska football. They need to understand that they're going to attract good talent and good coaches. They don't need Donevan, Izzo, Self, or any of those guys...they need someone who can step in and bring the program back.
My vote is for Sean Miller or Travis Ford."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

This firing wasn't only about W/L column. Granted, if there had been a lot more wins, the other stuff would have magically disappeared. But there weren't. So it didn't.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostThe worst, most ridiculous fire I've ever seen. I almost wish Utah were in the market for a coach.
