    Utah v Arizona

Arizona is not a good basketball team. Period. They have two good players, but they are not a good team.

This loss is on the Boylen and Drca.

There was a time when Utah's hallmark was smart play and execution. 32 3Pt attempts and almost as many turnovers?! That game was an embarrassment.

BYU would have won that game. Fredette would have eaten that press for breakfast.

As I noted in another thread, Utah doesn't have a ball handler...or at least one that played this season.

Arizona did a good job of forcing turnovers, but Utah made it very easy for them to force those turnovers.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

BYU plays the way they did against aTm against Arizona, you would have lost just like Utah did. Arizona is not a good and neither is aTm. Neither fanbase has anything to brag about.

Sort of agree, although I think A&M would've taken a big lead against anyone the way they shot it early. It wasn't bad defense--they were making shots they had no business making.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I don't think it's possible for BYU to win an NCAA game. Until proven otherwise that's my working assumption.

Weak sauce after Arizona just beat the Utes by double digits on a neutral court. What I saw was a big disparity in athleticism. Period. Last time I saw Luke play against a big athletic, really good future NBA big man was against 6-7 John Brockman here in Seattle. Brockman destroyed him. We don't have a very athletic team.

I've been saying all week that Arizona would manhandle us. The seeding was absurd. Arizona beat several very good teams this year. I saw them give Washington all it could handle in Seattle on the day Washington clinched the Pac 10 title, its first in 55 years. This Utah team was not talented, and this Arizona team is as talented as any in the last 25 years. Lute Olsen would have had them in the top 10-15, as usual. This was his team. I think Boylen worked miracles with this crappy Utah team.

We shouldn't draw any long term conclusions from the personnel on this team. Boylen has two very good recruiting years behind him, and none of those players have really been broken in yet. These were Giacoletti's players.

The truth is that Utah wasn't a very good team this year. And Boylen did a pretty lousy job coaching and prepping this team for the tournament. Sounds like you agree with both conclusions.

You've been reading my posts. I told you this is not rocket science.

No one was more surprised than me at the 5 seed. Of course they paid us back by making us play 12 seed Arizona. USC was so much more talented than the Utes it was ridiculous.

I think you'll see the Pac 10 make noise in this year's tournament.

Arizona was a terrible match up for Utah. UTah's strength was in the pivot. Unfortunately, Arizona had a better center and a lot more athleticism and basketball talent on the wings and the point.

First of all, of course I am reading your posts. I love your posts.

Second, I was more surprised than you at the 5 seed because I think Utah was highly overrated and very lucky to win the MWC tourney.

Third, USC is equally lucky to even be in the tournament. Besides Taj, they don't play much defense and they are a lousy FT shooting team. That being said, they peaked at the right time.

Fourth, the PAC is already representing. 6 in to start and 5 for 6 in round 1. Pretty nice. SC is going to get smashed against MSU, though.

And yes, this was not one of Boylen's better coached games. It happens. None of us are at the top of our game all the time. But the matchup was a disaster. He couldn't go outside in this game, and Luke could handle Hill defensively. The 3's turned it into Arizona's style of game.

I agree with this. Utah got screwed this year in the matchup department. BYU just played like crap. If Utah played one of its better games it was still likely to lose. However, there were teams seeded higher than AZ that Utah could have beaten without its best performance.

I think Boylen is going to do just fine at Utah. I doubt he has the tourney success of Majerus, but I think he will have teams good enough to win 1st round games every other year or so and have a trip to the sweet 16 once-twice a decade.

I think the Utes will take a step back next year in performance, but I think they will win a tourney game in Carlon Brown's senior year.

I think BYU will be as good next year as they were this past year if Tavernari stays, if Tav leaves I think the Cougs will step back as well. But I think Rose has a decent program in place and BYU will compete/win the MWC championship and get into the tourney most years as a 6-9 seed. I think that once the monkey gets off Rose's back he will start winning some tourney games and I bet he gets BYU beyond the second round once in his career, assuming he stays at BYU until he retires.
