  • WCC Expansion

I just watched a news report that the WCC is considering expansion to ten teams. I think UVU would be a good candidate with academics possibly being the only problem. Can anyone think of any other non-Cali schools that would be a good fit?

If we end up in the same conference as UVU, I will kick somebody.

UVU won't even be considered, so don't even open the window LC.

So one more team to get to 10. What other religious schools are out there in the west?
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

It would likely also have to be private, religiously oriented and not have a football team or at least be close on those.

The only one I can think of would be Pacific. Or maybe they will bring in BYU-H

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Also, the school basketball gym must be very small with retracting bleachers and sport volleyball lines as well.

Isn't there a little Catholic college up in Wyoming somewhere? Maybe we could sign them up.

I think the prime candidate would be Seattle University which I believe was in the WCC many years ago, or at least in a conference with the current WCC membership. They have recently made the move back to D1 sports and already serve as pre-season fodder against BYU in a few sports such as baseball and swimming. It's a Jesuit school and probably a perfect fit.

Edit: Found this article from a few years back about SU making the switch back to D1. Looks like they left the WCC in 1980 and dropped D1 sports, resuming D1 again in 2008.

                  http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...eattleu08.html

Gonzaga is a Seattle U. ally.

"Gonzaga University and Seattle U. are sister schools in the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus," Roth noted. "Rarely do you throw your brother out the door."

The Seattle U. goal in the next few years is to demonstrate to Gonzaga and the other schools that the WCC would be better with the Redhawks.

"We've got a lot of work to do," Hogan said, "but it's not like we're light years away. We're going to be good sooner than people think."

UVU would not be a good fit. They are a public school.

My vote goes to Bishop Gorman. Small religious school, good resources, great sports programs.

Judge Memorial used to be pretty strong but they have been eclipsed by Juan Diego. Solid all-around sports program and a beautiful campus in Sandy. The Juan Diego gym would be about the right size to fit in with the other WCC venues.

Juan Diego is actually in Draper... by about 100 feet. They do have amazing facilities. I think football is their flagship sport though. Maybe we can talk them into going indy in football as well.

Didn't that raptured geriatric start a religious school? Think they can ball?
