Just kidding. I haven't seen this guy play.

BUT....based solely on the picture in the link, I think Mr. Sharp would do well to re-enroll at Utah!!

Just kidding, what is the scoop on this kid? CB seems to like him.

Doesn't shoot as well as Rogers. Athleticism is fairly similar. I'd guess CB was excited when they found out Ben Murdock would be playing for BYU so they may not be the best barometer.

His high school stats I saw were not at all impressive. 7 points, 6 rebounds.

He did play on a pretty deep team.

Maybe BYU getting him is like any NBA team drafting Chris Singleton this year. You know he won't be a star, but he already comes in familiar with playing a role and knowing what will be expected of him. That is a better situation than bringing in someone like Zylstra that still believes he's a scorer even though his entire focus should be on defense and jump shots.

Very few players this underwhelming get this much attention. When the dust settles my prediction is that Josh Sharp's greatest contribution to college basketball is this dustup with the humor it is providing.

Now I am not convinced we will ever know the entire story and I trust neither the spin from Wrubbel nor the PDH article with its quotes from Josh's dad. He might get a scholarship from BYU, more the result of one being available than any real plan from Rose to lure the kid away from Utah, IMO. But the bitterness and the humor that eminates from the anger is like a drink of water to this weary and thirsty soul!

One thing that amazes me is how non-BYU fans that are mormon have such an undying devotion to the concept of ignoring all temporal concerns while one is on a mission....if that person is an athlete and considering tansferring to the BYU. Principally, we all have lives to live post mission service and methinks just about all of us did what we had to do to seemlessly transition from mission service to our next phase/challenge. I know I did and I think we should afford others the same privilege. Further, BYU has lost plenty of kids while they were on missions and they will lose more. Undoubtedly, BYU is likely to gain more RM transfers than it will lose. It is the LDS owned school run by LDS folks for LDS folks. Oddly, RM are at the pinnacle of the religious zealotry and probably find that environment more attractive than at any previous point in their life. Batshit crazy and amazing conclusion there!

He averaged 12 a game his senior year on a team with 5 D-1 players.

            Tyler Haws (BYU)
Justin Hamilton (Iowa St now LSU)
            Bracken Funk (Fresno St.)
            Nate Austin (BYU)
            Josh Sharp (BYU)

On a team that loaded 12 points is pretty solid.

Look in this day and age there are fewer and fewer diamonds in the rough. Josh had all the opportunity on the AAU circuits, in addition to HS ball, to show he was a legitimate D1 athlete. So far the only person who might be of the opinion he is is Jim Boylen, whose insight we are getting through 2nd or 3rd or 4th hand information from a the Principal Chief BYU homer. Further, Jimbo's eye for talent might be legitimately called into question.

Consider me skeptical the youngster ever makes my nipples hard. Now if he had Jake Schoff's asscrack.......

As far as I know Jeff Eisenberg isn't a BYU homer. And it does upgrade my opinion of Sharp that Boylen at least got to watch him for a year in practice and he isn't basing his critique of Sharp's ability only on what he saw at Lone Peak.

"I'm saying this humbly, but he was poorly evaluated coming out of high school," Boylen said by phone Wednesday night. "I thought he was a high-major guy like J.J. O'Brien. He's one of the best guys we recruited in the four years I was there. We had him penciled in as a starter coming back. Again penciled in, but he was a guy who was going to compete for a position."

12 ppg is much better. 3rd in scoring to Hawes when Hawes was a Jr. and Funnk
Nate Austin was non-existent on that team, so that's not an impressive feat.

That Boylen quote is encouraging. Of course, we'll just have to wait and see

Have you seen the type of players that Boylen is interested in? I think Sharp will be solid, but I would never be encouraged by a Boylen quote about a player's abilities.

I'll take it since he was comparing him to JJ O'Brien, and not Kupets or DiMaria or Guiot or Glover or Cypers or Tavita or Hines or Read or Henderson...

If he is trying to walk on, I'm excited. If he's decent, he makes the squad and finds a role on the team. If he's not that good, I'm sure that Utah will have room on it's roster to take him back.

Agreed. Boylen is a terrible judge of talent. However, Boylen is a terrible developer of talent too, so perhaps Sharp achieves despite his poor environment.
