Anybody else remember watching Patrick Ewing dominate in the Marriott Center during the 1982 NCAA Tourney?
My dad snuck me in without a ticket and I sat on the seat next to him. That was awesome seeing Ewing and that great Georgetown team dominate.
The only other NCAA games I went to were the opening round games in St. Louis in 2002. We watched 16 seed Holy Cross make a close game of it with Kansas. I love the first week of the NCAA Tournament. It's probably my favorite four days of sports each year.

I've never been, but if BYU goes to Philly, I will attend my first tournament.

"Scored." They are hot tickets, eh. How many days did you have to camp out in line to get those? LOL.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostI hope they send someone good. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I went to those games. I went with a kid whose Dad had a car dealership in Provo and he had some seats that were in the first row of the permanent seats. The next week SI had a picture of Ewing on their cover and I missed being in the picture by two seats. I'm still a little upset about it.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostAnybody else remember watching Patrick Ewing dominate in the Marriott Center during the 1982 NCAA Tourney?

Anyone know why the Marriott Center is no longer an NCAA tourney site?Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostAnybody else remember watching Patrick Ewing dominate in the Marriott Center during the 1982 NCAA Tourney?

No. They can't hold games at the very location of the infamous Mark E. Peterson talk until there is a formal apology.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostProbably because of Prop 8.

Nice.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNo. They can't hold games at the very location of the infamous Mark E. Peterson talk until there is a formal apology.
I think the real reason the Marriott Center isn't used for NCAA Tourney games has to do with the lack of hotel accomodations and excessive distance from a major airport.
The whole thing has just become a helluva lot bigger since the early 80s. Provo is just not set up conveniently enough for the television production crew and all the teams, players, fans, bands, cheerleaders, etc. to get to Provo and stay in Provo for a week.
