So what does Norm bring to the Utes? I remember Parrish playing up at Ricks about a million years ago.

Another Viewmont High Alum. I would guess he has good ties for local recruits.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

I was told be another JC coach they were surprised that Norm was headed to utah instead of BYU. I have no idea if Rose tried to hire him or not, just passing on what I was told.

I doubt that BYU offered him a job. BYU has a job open for the top assistant on the staff. At Utah, he was hired as the director of basketball operations. The top assistant is a much better job.

It's a better job if you're young, ambitious and don't mind being away from your family for long stretches -- presuming Dave Rose doesn't have the same "be home for dinner every night" mantra that another BYU head coach has.

Norm had accomplished all he could in the JUCO game, and is probably too old to break into D-1 coaching. Getting DBO at Utah is probably a perfect fit for him now. He certainly wasn't forced out at SLCC.
