  • Chris Burgess talks about Roger Reid, Brandon Davies, and Mormon missionaries

    http://www.jeffpearlman.com/the-quaz-qa-chris-burgess/

This Q&A with Chris Burgess is a pretty interesting read.

I had no idea he had played in so many foreign countries. When you're playing pro basketball in the Philippines it's pretty much a sign of desperation but I suppose if that's his best way of making a living then "Chris Burgess gotta do what Chris Burgess gotta do".

He comes across as pretty well-grounded and likable in this interview.

I thought that was a good piece. I know a lot of people who are very down on the guy. Turned down BYU, eventually ended up at the U and his brother transferred. I don't know if the fact he is a solid LDS and family guy compensates enough for some people.

As a matter of fact if this ever makes it to CB, I will bet he get hammered for saying one reason he didn't pick BYU was the HC. No really good person ever has the HC as a reason to turn down BYU, only weeners do.

I'm still one of the disappointed 8 million Mormons, but in retrospect I can't fault the guy for not signing up for Roger Reid's Last Stand.

Played in S. Korea and doesn't like kimchi? He is wrong, he's not very well cultured at all!
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

          Okay, I now like Burgess.

But I still hate Ben Olsen. Hate 'im, I tell you, hate 'im.

Seriously though, what a horrible thing for Reid to say.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I agree. I'm sure his figures included inactive and foreign members, most of whom don't follow BYU sports. He had an obligation to get the figure a bit more accurate.

WTF? His favorite NBA team is the Celtics?

I saw Chris play for the Stampede in Boise with Byron Mouton. Kind of interesting. I won a free turkey at the game bowling over some 2-liter bottles with a frozen bird.

              Good interview.

What don't you understand bout the word "seriously?"

                Seriously, YO, seriously.

We were in the same stake as the Burgess fam back in OC. My wife was good pals with his sis. They are a...um....competitive family when it comes to sports.

Chris Burgess was born to play Christian Bale's stunt double in the Fighter.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'm glad Chris attended the U. He's quite a representative of the school, and I would think most Utah alumni would feel the same way.

I am glad I got a chance to read this. Like probably many people, I thought of this guy as a dud. Reading this gives me a new perspective and like for the guy.

I much prefer liking guys instead of thinking they are duds, even if they are former Utes.
