  • Thanks for the memories

I came upstairs from the man cave and Gidget was on the couch and the first thing she says is I'm sorry, I feel like crying. We hugged, I held back tears and I am now eating a giant brownie with ice cream.

I am proud of this team. They overcame some difficult odds to put together a decent run. They have given me the greatest fan experience I have ever had in my life following any of my favorite teams. I mean that. This season, even though it ended sooner than it should have, has been more enthralling than any season, even trumping some of the Lakers' runs for me.

My heart goes out to KC. That free throw could have clinched the game. Likewise I feel for Jimmer. Man, my heart aches for him. That's probably not the way you want to go out, but damn I love his guts.

Thanks to the seniors. Mags made an impact tonight. Thank you for making this team better by hustling and doing what you could with the little talent you had. Emery I am going to miss your professionalism and the way you carried yourself in Jimmer's long shadow. Thank you for every steal. And Jimmer. Jimmer. Thank you for every bomb. Thank you for every primal scream. Thank you for every crossover. Thank you for every scoop. Man I am going to miss that kid. I have never seen anything like him ever. He's simply amazing.

Thanks for the ride Cougars. It was one hell of a good time. This season sealed me to the Cougars forever. This was the year that I will tell my kids about. And these were the players that will make my eyes sparkle when I tell of their heroics.

    Same here.

Very well said, Surfah. I feel the same way.

      My ten year old cried.

My ten year old who heretofore never watched a single sports event, who used to demand we go home after the first half of a BYU football game and who refused to watch basketball.

We need a Jimmer tribute thread ASAP.

Ditto. I am very sad about the outcome of today's game. I am more sad that I will never get to see Jimmer wear a BYU uniform and jack up a three from 35 feet again. Without a doubt the most fun BYU athlete I have seen.

Amen.... I'm sad right now, but thanks Cougs!

It'll take a bit to get over, but then it's on to a great summer of nice weather, grilling in the back yard and taking trips to the lake. Then...... FOOTBALL!

You deserved the great season. Congrats on this great season. You will always remember it fondly, even if BYU does more in the future.

Not ashamed to say it, but seeing Jimmer go out made me cry.

I'm not a Mormon anymore but i'm damn proud of my heritage. I'm proud of the work ethic I learned on a mission. I'm grateful my children are being raised in that heritage.

Jimmer gave our kind a bit of a swagger we haven't had in decades. Perhaps ever. He's the coolest Mormon that I can remember. He is The Jimmer.

A fun fun season. Even with all the late season drama and adversity this team was a play short to going to the Elite 8. Jimmer you've put the team on your back so many times and made so many highlight plays. Thanks for being the competitor you are and sacrificing the body to get a win, Player of the Year. Jax was always good for a steal and some lock down D. Mags you played hard and even hit some key shots in the tourney.

This has been perhaps my most favorite BYU team of all time regardless of sport. I'm sure I'll be telling my kids of when I used to watch The Jimmer in person bomb 30 footers.

i posted this in the other thread:

unfortunately, there's only one way to leave the ncaa tournament and not be disappointed at all. considering that, i'm in a good place vis a vis this team. i suppose i took the davies loss personally, but to have made this run without him is incredible.

today's been an interesting day. earlier i registered for classes at the u, and watched my last byu sporting event as a student. i don't know where i go from here in terms of fandom, but i do know that memories watching this team will always be special for me. it's been a fun ride.

Amen. I have faith that we'll have more great seasons if we can keep coach Rose but we'll never have another Jimmer. Ever. Knowing that makes today's loss hurt more than it normally would for me.

Surfah that was a great post. I feel exactly the same way. So glad we got to catch a game this year. I'll never forget the 2011 Cougars.

Jimmer gave us more hope and entertainment than we have a right to request.

Tonight's loss is going to hurt for a long time, given how close we came. But yes indeed, a wonderful, wonderful season.

One more post from the Big Easy and then I'm back to the 'Tah tomorrow morning.

I have been able to witness firsthand this roller coaster ride of a season. I went to all the hom games, many of the away games, the Vegas tourney, and now NOLA. By rights, I should be feeling the gut punch. But honestly, I just don't. I guess I should be sad or something. Disappointed a bit, sure.

On the walk back from the arena, we ran into and walked along with an AA gent that was dressed in business attire...shirt and tie. He was leaving the arena and so we asked him where he was headed. He explained that he was from DC and was in town for some business meetings. He was also a coach for some AAUU type youth hoops teams in the hood of the District. Lots of underprivileged kids. He said that he came to see BYU. He didn't care about any of the other teams but he has been following us most of the season.

He explained that when his kids practice, they usually pretend to be Kobe or Lebron. But for the past few months, he said most of his kids pretend to be Jimmer. He said that when they practice, the kids say that they want to shoot like Jimmer or drive like Jimmer. He said that in all his years coaching and being a fan, he has never seen a white college player infiltrate the AA ranks and become a cultural icon in hoops. He has been fascinated by this BYU kid from Provo that has turned college hoops on its ear.

You know guys, when New Orleans is hopping, the place is one massive street party. But in between weekends, the streets are empty, not much is going on. In a way, it is somewhat desolate. As we walked to dinner, it was quiet, the streets were empty. I should have been mad or bummed, but instead I was pretty stoked.

This season, I have seen the entire country become entranced by BYU basketball. I saw the single greatest scoring performance in BYU history. I saw the single best career scorer in BYU history. I saw the greatest single season scorer in BYU history. I saw BYU play in the Sweet 16. Lest we forget, I also saw the single greatest career steals leader in BYU history. I was in New freaking Orleans and seconds away from a slot in the Elite Eight. I was a rock star walking around in BYU gear, people high fiving me because I was somehow associated with this magic carpet ride that was Jimmer Mania and the rest of the team. All of us were part of it. Wherever we went people knew that the Y was BYU, not Yale for once. This was the single greatest season in BYU basketball history because of what happened on the court and for the cultural icon status off the court.

The team, with Loyd, Daivies, and Collinsworth, was a legit title contender. As BYU fans, that is a fantastic leap forward. When was the last time a BYU basketball Fan was ever able to say that? Even our dreaded nemesis, the Utes, who have achieved so many heights in basketball, have given BYU its due for this incredible season.

You know, I should be upset, but I'm not. This was a great season. I'm going to remember it for a long time. I still have Jimmermania. And I wouldn't trade any of these fun memories.
