There are a number of people on this board that have knowledge and insight into hoops that I find impressive. In fact, I would say that per capita this board has more knowledgeable hoops posters than any other board I've ever frequented. On Cougarboard I felt like it was 90% dudes who played basketball video games and watched NBA to get their hoops education, 8% Church basketball and Gold's Gym all-stars, 1% decently trained former HS players, .8% well trained former HS players and college players and .2% complete morons. This board has a really high percentage of well trained former HS or college players and decently trained former players.

What I lack in understanding, I make up for in enthusiasm.

I played high school ball and have watched a lot of BYU BB games, as in like pretty much all of them, since my mission 20 years ago or so. I felt like I understood basketball pretty well, but what's interesting to me was my BB knowledge really amped up the few years I coached my son in AAU ball.

It was a competitive team and I found myself constantly studying coaching forums and reading articles, tweaking our offense, defense, studying all kinds of plays and offenses and how to defend them. Secondary breaks, different ways to defend screens, different ways to defend the post, the myriad of cuts and screens on offense, etc. Then I found myself studying what BYU runs and copying it. A lot of fun.

I might coach my second son or I might not have the energy for it. Wish I had more energy both in time and in emotional commitment. it's a thankless job. No matter what you, half the kids don't play as much and don't score as much as the top half and the parents will be pissed.

BB is not brain surgery and this not a humblebrag.

I think I get more insight from your basketball posts than just about anyone else. I think Killerdog is also very insightful. And while I don't agree with him some of the time, Viking has been good in his own way also.
