One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

I believe religion has much inherent good and has born many good fruits.

Whatever happened with the lawsuit Smith was involved with? It seems like he was accused of investment fraud or something like that. I know he pleaded not-guilty a year or so ago, but never heard what became of the case.
Yeah, it always sucks when a kid puts the Lord's work ahead of sports.

Good question AV. I think I remember SU being very interested in that development. Maybe he can give us an update.
Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I can't recall if he was acquitted or the charges were dismissed. But he came out fine and is still the Clippers color guy.
Did anyone ever even remotely doubt either? This kid has been packaged for the BYU from the beginning. With this type of stuff no coach is going to waste his time recruiting Jordan so I don't understand why even trying to get other programs onto the dance floor to stroke the kids ego. Dad is making sure that the kid is known to be off limits to all but the BYU.
Is Jordan a sign and send or will he play a year? How are fast sundays working out in his home?

From what I glanced it sounded to me like it was just a case of the real estate development market going TU. I am sure Smith is a smooth talking snake like every real estate developer I have ever dealt with, but if he was guilty of anything it was likely believing the hype of the market and assuring his friend that enormous returns were possible or even likely. Whether or not it was dishonest is in the eye of the beholder, but I could see nothing criminal.

Which is why he was acquitted. It was a bad business deal. If anything it should have been a civil suit. That criminal charges were brought against him is absurd. Also, from what I read the jury only deliberated for an hour. Smith's lawyer blasted the DA afterward with reason.

No way he was getting fired from the Clippers. If anyone can relate to real estate lawsuits its his boss Donald Sterling.
