Man, talk about a tale of two extremes ...
Which mission call would you have rather had?

Geez, no kidding. Makes you wonder about the inspiration in that one.

I haven't heard to many RM's from Russia say they want to go back and visit and really how often would you use Russian. On the other hand two years of dinner appointments and people finding investigators for you to teach would be a walk in the park.

Just looked at where Vladivostok was on a map. I thought it was in the middle of Siberia. Turns out, it's on the Pacific Ocean. Still very cold there. But it's essentially where China, North Korea and Russia all meet, and who knows what kind of affect the situation in Japan could have on that region. Tough to imagine a more potentially terrifying area in which to serve.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostGeez, no kidding. Makes you wonder about the inspiration in that one.

Vladivostok would be a very interesting experience. I'm intrigued by that area of the world. Are the people there Asian/Mongolian looking people or Russian/Caucasian looking?

SoonerCoug seemed to really enjoy his time in Russia. I'm sure Collinsworth will come back with equally warm and fuzzy feelings about his mission experience and about his ecclesiastical leaders in general. It's just too bad he's going on a mission in the first place.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostJust looked at where Vladivostok was on a map. I thought it was in the middle of Siberia. If you must serve a mission, I say go somewhere exotic where you get language experience and the chance to be in an environment that is wholly separate from anything you have ever experienced. California was nice but seeing girls I dated in college and living in a normal place had definite draw backs. Add to it the suckiness of not being able to brag about your cool mission experience in a foreign land to non members and members alike and I think you see why I would pick Siberia over SLC.

Join the Army and become a Russian Foreign Area Officer - that's what my brother did, except he went to Belgium/France and the Army taught him Russian not the ChurchOriginally posted by RC Vikings View PostI haven't heard to many RM's from Russia say they want to go back and visit and really how often would you use Russian. Now his son is heading there and he will have to keep up his Russian
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

I don't know. I'm always faily entertained by the stories of elders getting ex'ed in Cali because of the girl across the street from the mission apartment that wants to get frisky with all of them. I think in a lot of ways that beats tales of a mission full of elders with worms in their stomach.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostIf you must serve a mission, I say go somewhere exotic where you get language experience and the chance to be in an environment that is wholly separate from anything you have ever experienced.
