Not to take anything away from Rice's ability to tweak the offense with no Davies, but I think we're overstating that angle a little. We ran that back cut for Jimmer at least every few games all through the season.

The actual sets of the offense hasn't changed much. Harstock or Anderson are still posting on the block the same times Davies would. Davies wasn't always on the block, anyway, he was out setting the high ball screen or hanging around for the FT jumper quite a bit.

It's a variation on the same offense but it is not the same offense. We used to run the UCLA cut on a back pick now we run it without. We used to create dribble penetration off the high ball screen to take the 5 out of the paint. Now our high ball screen comes from all 4 players and we also run a spacing iso to get into the paint. The offense is based on the same principles and many of the same sets but it is nothing like the same offense. That's one of the reasons we've been out of sync for about 6 games.

Also, apparently the Dumpsman Center is as historic as Pauley Pavillion.

Although one of the arenas is famous for the team that played there.

eeeh, I still think you're overstating it. The ball screen still comes from the 5 more often than other positions. It's true, the ball screen is coming from other positions, which didn't happen much before. The five out is a nice twist. I'd say it's more like a 80-20 thing where 20% is new (and not really new just stuff we used to run infrequently we now run more frequently) than say it's an entire new offense.

Jimmer has faced Utah 9 times in his career and LAute has yet to see him play. Speaks volumes.

That game was so, so sweet. I let out a few howls and primal screams that I'm sure scared everyone in the room. We even went to Hires Big H afterwards, a virtual Jabba's Palace of Ute scum, as I was in full Jimmer regalia with zero compunction or apology. So amazing. I'm still buzzing.

I had never seen Jimmer play until yesterday.

In the first half, when he coolly drilled that one shot from 5 feet beyond the 3-point line, I said "color me a believer." Amazing skills, absolutely fun to watch.

So I will now take a deep breath and say: Go Jimmer! Go Cougars!

I was on my mission also, but there was a pizza place across from our apartment. I saw the whole tourney.

The talk I remember from the announcers was about how amazing Majerous was, he stayed up until 3 in the morning with George Karl before the Carolina game diagramming defenses on a napkin was the story that kept getting retold during the broadcast.
