  • Billy Gillespie is clearly viewed as damaged goods

I’ve also been told that there was a major push by Wyoming boosters to try to get Billy Gillispie some consideration for the job. Despite the search firm involved in the process signing off on BCG and school president Buchanan also approving of Gillispie consideration, Burman nixed an interview for the former Kentucky coach. That despite Bill Self personally calling the school to recommend his former assistant at Tulsa after Gillispie made it known he had interest in the job. (Regardless of what you may hear, he did.)
I would have thought that Gillespie was the guy nixing Wyoming's attempt to hire him, not Wyoming.

Wyoming is looking at hiring Ernie Kent. Kent can't coach a lick, but he is a fantastic recruiter. The type of talent that Kent could bring in would go a long way in the MWC. Fisher isn't a good coach, but his recruiting has helped SDSU win.

I sometimes wonder if Gillespie just got lucky at aTm. He had Acie Law as a senior and a couple other decent role players, but they really didn't do as much as people think....well other than get aTm fans excited about basketball. But he's clearly not as great of a coach as his reputation used to give him.

He'd be a decent hire for Wyoming...if they could keep him away from the bars.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

we're talking about Laramie in the winter. What else is there to do?

        I don't believe this.

Got lucky at a school that had more than a decade of losing season grief before he came? I don't think so. Those players were worse than Utah this year when he took over.

            It's spelled Gillispie.

I think he'd be great for Utah.

He would have plenty of support and people who knows what he has gone through regarding his drug and alcohol problems. He would have no problem finding a sponsor.

Gillispie will be the new coach at Texas Tech.

Interviewing now and sources are confirming that he is their guy.

Wyoming REALLY missed out on a potential home run hire if what you are saying is true.

Never going to get a legit coach up there in Laramie who doesn't have some sort of baggage.

This is a joke, right? A&M was the first Big 12 team to ever go winless in league action the year prior to Gillespie's arrival. He won at Allen, had his team ranked high in the polls and progressively won more in the postseason in his three years there. If Gillespie is lucky, it's only because he knows how to grow 4-leaf clovers better than anyone else.

Your post confused me. Who is being interviewed and who is doing the interviewing? EDIT: I just saw the subject line on your post. Now I understand. Thanks.

It is being tweeted elsewhere that Gillispie is set to be Texas Tech's next coach.
