  • Pet peeve of mine from fans and parents -- someone fell down, there must have been a foul! Also you've undoubtedly witnessed some temporary chaos on the floor when there is a loose ball. Again, must have been a foul!

But if you look more closely it's usually that most of the players who find themselves on the floor in those situations have done so completely voluntarily, hoping to get to the ball. It's ugly. Everyone wants the ref to do something about it, but often there is no fair call to make. It's not a foul unless there is intentional pushing or tripping.

Also two players who don't have the ball incidentally bumping into each other while trying to get to the ball is not a foul. If a player succeeds in grabbing the ball first and someone from the other team bumps into him after that then it is a foul because the first one has then established he is the offense and the other guy by default just became defense, so bumping into the offense is not legal guarding position.

One last thought -- TV announcers are often as bad and overly dramatic as whiny middle and HS parents when it comes to the whole Someone Fell Down! It has to be a foul!! Thing. But it's probably good for getting the audience riled up.

    • There have been psa;s on rules fans don’t understand. You can slide and not travel, What a charge is. Some fans in our districts were told to sit down. No one was thrown out.

We forced an if necessary game with the Central Idaho sled dogs. Home if a good ice cream and hamburger shop I have yet to patronize. Got throttled next game. I made it up to championship Saturday. Halftime of first game were Sled dogs sent the Frosted Flakes town on the Palouse a packing.

Children of Chief Joseph and neighbors near Canada village of lakes, Chief Joseph’s posterity won and had player break all kind of records for the Nez Perce. Must be towns on the reservation as several caucasians played for both teams. Before that game didn’t sing national anthem but song sang that they sang when a treaty was signed before Idaho became a territory. Took a few minutes to sing that song and not too many residents of Lapwai or Lakeside understood it.

every team in 2a that made it from Treasure valley was church school. 3rd place game won by Christian school in town of Robb Morris and Jake Plummer.Meridian McDonald’s mascot town took it from neighbors that you don’t want male bovine coming at you. May even play in same game.

Badgers that couldn’t get past Canadian immigration took it from Spencer Neads Alma mater. I didn’t see anyone from Spencer Neads Alma mater wear gear that said Redskins. I wondered if some would have old clothes that said Redskins. Some people think it’s a slur, others like me pc people there. First championship for town you need to put cars on ship.

BYU recruit in town of Kolipolke went down to Neil L Andersens Alma mater. Some people on social media still referred to them as Indians. In town that gave us Merrill Hoge and Taysom Hill.

Osaac Davis did have good game though. 5a game I didn’t stay for in upstart Hawaiian named school and Boise Forest school. The former won.

Former neighbor of ours played on this year girls legend of the game and they won state again this year. That’s a first. Boys legend gave us an LDS Governor, and prominent era proponent who left the church over that. In order to atone for that mishap gave us beehive hoops coaching great. There neighbors of Rocks were smartest kids in that classification.

Last year Lakeside upset Lapwai in the State Championship game. Lapwai kept Kase Wynott on the perimeter all game long instead of establishing him inside and then moving him to outside. That and the PG from Lakeside played the game of his life-it was a great upset. Kase Wynott is a great player-set the all time Idaho scoring record and is headed to Utah State to play hoops. Kase is not a Native American. His family lives in Craigmont but any kid who lives on the reservation can go to Lapwai so he commuted the 30 miles as Lapwai hoops is clearly a far better product that Highland of Craigmont.

I was really happy Camas beat Kendrick. Kendrick's girls won it this year, as grape is all to painfully aware, and I didn't want Kendrik to "pull a Rockland" and win it in both boys and girls hoops in the same season. Happy to say it didn't happen for Kendrick boys so that accomplishment of being the only school at our classification to have done that stays intact. Kendrick moves up with the new classification regime so they will win our size no more forever.

Isaac Davis was a beast for Hillcrest, but it was just Pocatello's year as they had more depth and more athletic perimeter players. The Hillcrest kids are good shooters but Pocatello just didn't give them much space and the big kid for Pocatello caused enough challenges for Isaac in one on one matchups that Pocatello pulled it off. Isaac is a legit high end college basketball athlete. I wonder if the kid is leaving money on the table as he has the build of a very rich OT, but he loves hoops. I don't expect he will give BYU much next season. While he is a great athlete and has some polish in low post moves I think he will be better served with a perimeter game and that will take at least a year for him to get comfortable with at the NCAA level. While he camped down low in Idaho HS play my understanding is he demonstrates some level of a perimeter game in AAU ball so I expect that by his SO or JR year he will be able to stretch the court to some extent for BYU. The thing is I think the kid is just a bit lazy. Given his size and athleticism he ought to be blocking shots and grabbing rebounds galore-but he just doesn't dominate in those areas like I would expect. Perhaps my expectations are too much, but I think he needs a year to learn how to use what the good Lord gave him effectively and entirely. The good thing is that barring injuries BYU shouldn't need him even as a reserve in their rotation until his sophomore year.

The Malad legend team was great. I love me the angry Welsh folks out that way although we sent our JV team to play their Freshman/C team and their coach whined about it. It wasn't even our best JV team as out best FR was playing in the Varsity game the same evening up on the Leadore. The team we put on the court was 3 FR and 3 SO and he whined that it was supposed to be a "developmental" game. We got 59 kids in HS-I guess we could have brought one of our elementary JR Jazz teams. For those of you with relatives from angry Welsh Dragon country that Terry Jones built-this C coach was an outsider from West Side so you can assume the all important testicular fortitude of your relatives may still be intact.

My maternal grandfather was a descendent of all those Welsh folks and grew up in Samaria, a small farming community near Malad.

Kingston Clan is buying out all the farmers and ranchers in Samaria.

His share was bought out by one of his cousins several years back. Don't think I know anything about the Kingston Clan.

                • There is a good game taking place tonight in small school Idaho basketball. Some rural districts consolidated decades ago in Idaho. We’re it hasn’t happened biggest four letter word. Many towns still have there own High School. For sports get who live there. Many charter and church schools spring up in urban areas. So public schools in small towns play church and charter schools in big towns, whose kids live in several public school attendance zones.

Charter schools haven’t done much in sports in Idaho. Some private church schools have, others haven’t. Have to pay to go to church school and many only take Protestants, maybe Catholics but not other religions. So not sure if there is recruiting. May have some advantage over rural public schools.

Tonight rocky neighbors of Osmond Matriarch, era activist and beehive hoops coaching great are paying Idaho Falls spring of water church school a visit. Public school gave us 2nd loss last week. We couldn’t buy basket after 2nd quarter. 2nd less, first to dominant team ahead of us when Star player was recovering from football injury. That team and JR Simplots Alma mater should take state this year.

large player at Idaho Falls Christian school and star from rocky village should be game tonight. Preview for runner up at state this year. Revenge for last year with private school or public rocky school at ford Idaho center this year,

                  • Idaho state tournament in books. There was a saturation of private and charter schools in some divisions. However all the schools that played in the Idaho center Saturday were public schools. Idaho has a policy of schools can petition up or down classification. Up for proximity, down if records will be poor in own classification. Used to be all or none, then football only now any team sport. So can petition down for football but not other sports, soccer or volleyball.

Eastern Idaho is saturated with charter and private schools now. The ten team league got three bids. Private school in Isaac Davis’ hometown and village of Rocks south of American Falls and as the crow flies not all that far from home of Osmond's matriarch, era activist and to atone for that mishap gave us beehive hoops coaching great.

Central Idaho school successfully petitioned down classification a few over. People moved out of those towns earlier. In county named after Civil War Indian fighting General famous for last stance. That school got third bid and upset previous conference foes at state. Schools that beat them earlier. Lost to us Saturday we are the champions again.

I went up Friday saw 2nd half of Rocky village last stand generals county game. We beat next opponent fairly easy. Gave us somewhat of game 4th quarter made a mini comeback. We couldn’t buy free throw but survived. Backyard food growing below mountain town.

I went and watched Jr Simplots Alma mater play Meridian McDonald’s mascot school. Jr Simplots Alma mater beat them a private school that had some good basketball teams recently. Knocked us out one year. Enrollment is growing. An upstart church school in Courdalane made state this year. Hopefully they won’t be a future Gen Prep. Gen Prep missed state this year no more international players. Charter schools didn get far.

Jr Simplots Alma mater lost first game in district tournament, then to Cougsdads old cosmos Alma mater at state 2nd game in ot. Only close game there. I left at halftime of 6a game. Upstart Meridian school throttled NorthIdaho team by side of Lake. Halftime tv birthplace team honored as legends of game.

Bo Gritz for,Ed neoghbors lost championship to Palouse Frosted Flakes mascot town. Central Magic valley team Easter Jerome county lost first game at state to Dick Motta’s first high school gig. Napolean Dynamite easily handed Isaac Davis,s Alma mater loss in championship.

North Idaho car shipping town has been dominant took state again. First part named after Billie the kid nickname. Bonner. Idaho High School boys this year. Kettle corn and mini donuts highly addictive there. I didn’t do pa for basketball this year.

Girls beehive coaching great got 2nd his rocky neighbors won there third championship in five years. Haven’t won state in anything in years past.

Congrats Grape. I am happy for your community after Coach Dill and Coach Astle both passed away within the last year and a half. To watch Wayne's son coach your boys to a state championship was pretty cool and a great experience for y'all in the wake of those tragic losses. I thought when Challis upset Watersprings the way was being paved for us to pull off another double but Challis was better than us on Friday. For those of you who like BYU track one of the best young HJ in the nation is a SO LDS girl from Challis-at a minimum she will walk on at BYU. I also really happy for the Torgerson family with their boy getting MVP of the tournament. I like his dad a lot and he is a tough kid who earned it the right way.
