They played 39 games this week and went 21-18. Wow. College Hoops is brutal.

I was debating with a guy at church (non-member Terps fan) how far BYU would fall. I told him I doubt they drop much at all and wouldn't be surprised to see them stay in the top 10. He said no way. I told him everyone but Ohio State this week dropped a game. But he wasn't buying it. It will be interesting to see what if any shakeup in the rankings tomorrow. I think they'll remain the same for the most part except for maybe teams like St. Mary's falling out."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Unfortunately for BYU, I'm going to have to agree with the other guy. The BCSification of college basketball has made the margin of error for schools from non-BCS conferences practically nonexistent. We all know how tough it really is to get a win in The Pit, but to those east of the Mississippi, a loss is unacceptable.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI was debating with a guy at church (non-member Terps fan) how far BYU would fall. I am not sure the loss at Pit will mean as much as the legitimacy of SDSU in the eyes of the voters. That I think will be key. Most understand how difficult it is to win at the Pit. I am not sure they buy SDSU as a legit one seed or even two seed.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostUnfortunately for BYU, I'm going to have to agree with the other guy. I think we stay in the 7-9 range. Syracuse and Villanova will not stay ahead of BYU after back to back losses. Also directly behind BYU are Purdue (blown out by OSU), Missourri (lost to Texas), and TAMU lost to Nebraska.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI expect us to be out of the top ten. Probably in the 11-14 range. This is fine. There is so much more basketball left to play.
Notre Dame with a win at #2 Pitt might jump from 15 in to the top10 but that is it. Kentucky has an outside shot but neither of their wins this week were impressive.
I see the top 10 like this:
1. Ohio State
2. Texas (big jump)
3. Kansas
4. Pitt
5. Duke
6. SDSU
7. UCONN
8. BYU
9. Notre Dame
10. Kentucky*Banned*

They will much more forgive Duke losing to St. John's or Villanova losing to Georgetown than BYU losing at the Pit. BYU's burden is to convince them that BYU isn't St. Mary's, it's 1996-98 Utah or 1998-99 Gonzaga, not BYU 2000's. The skeptical, rational mind presumes BYU is the same as always unless proven othewise. BYU has needed to maintain an aura of traveling on a beam of light. Losing to New Mexico killed that aura. It will take its toll on the seeding unless BYU can win out. Lingering doubters will note the weak conference and that Jimmer scores too many points. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
