Hey, thanks for pointing to this article! I would have probably missed it.

Anyhow, my brother is no scrapper. He is 6'1" and weighs probably 170 pounds, and he has spent most of his life avoiding situations that would require the use of his fists.

Here are a couple of supplements to the article: Being involved in a life-threatening altercation changed my brother. He avoids R-rated movies, so his views about violence are unaffected by film's like Fight Club and The Hurt Locker, but he talks about how the fight was thrilling, and how once he recovered and was back on the streets, there was a part of him that privately hoped for another situation that would justify the use of his new-found skills.

Also, though the article reports that "There was no real damage to the ligaments or tendons, and Elder Ferguson was sewn up and able to recover on his own," there WAS pretty extensive nerve damage, and he now has very little feeling in three of the fingers on the hand that was badly slashed.

Anyhow, while I'm sure my brother has seen this article, he hasn't shared it with the rest of the family, who will be very interested in reading it. Thanks again for posting.

I was really hoping you would chime in. I was sent a link to the article from three separate friends yesterday, all making a comment of admiration towards your brother.
