  • BYU is 3rd in the RPI because

They have played 3 road games and 5 neutral site games out of their first 14 games. IOW, only 6 of their 14 games have been at home. How many other ranked teams have played less than half of their games at home (don't spend too long searching).

The RPI weights wins by location

    Home win = 0.7 wins
    Neutral win = 1.0 win
    Road win = 1.4 wins

Their 3 road wins and 4 neutral wins have yielded 3.3 additional wins than BYU would have if all of these wins were at home.
Everything in life is an approximation.

Being 13-1 with their SOS helps.
"Don't expect I'll see you 'till after the race"

"So where does the power come from to see the race to its end...from within"

      They're 6 in sagarin.

I still don't know why people even look at rpi right now. It's only interesting during selection time, and only because the ncaa has made it so.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I checked a few days ago, and Suck Dog State had 8 away games. 8-0 in away games, of course.
