The BYU/UcLA game was absolute dog shit. I went from a feel good high of watching the football team lay a beat down to watching the Hoops team lay an egg.

The Bruins absolutely owned us on the glass and our defense was terrible. How in the heck did we give up 86 points. Very ugly and very disappointing but it is only one game and I would rather lose to UcLA than UNLV or Suck Dog State.

The Bruins absolutely owned us on the glass and our defense was terrible. How in the heck did we give up 86 points. Very ugly and very disappointing but it is only one game and I would rather lose to UcLA than UNLV or Suck Dog State.

Weird game. Rebounding was even, though they pulled 4 more offensive rebounds.

UCLA wins this one. Overall UCLA is more talented, it's in SC, and they'll be ready.

Attending the game was a lot of fun, despite BYU not playing to the best of their ability. We ran into traffic on the way to the arena and arrived with the score 18-8. It was pretty much all downhill from there as UCLA went on a 16-0 run. I thought UCLA's defense really gave BYU fits and that they were appropriately "up" for this game. Maybe it was the magic of Wooden, I don't know.

When BYU trimmed UCLA's lead to 61-59 I thought the Cougars might catch them. The charging foul on Jimmer happened right in front of us. The replay showed Josh Smith obviously falling down before Jimmer leaned into him. And now that I think about it, if Smith really was set, there is no way Jimmer could successfully run over that 300+ behemoth. Regardless of that call, BYU did not play as well as they should, and the game was lost because of a multitude of other things, not just that call.

I do wish Anderson could catch the ball a bit better.

Anyway, we had the chance to hear Coach Rose and some of the team members (specifically team spokesman Magnusson) after the game. The team was pretty bummed, but good natured nonetheless.

My fiancee also had a great time, this being her first collegiate sports event. She even thought the heckling from the nearby UCLA fans was hilarious. We made the below sign.



The highlight was getting it signed. Jimmer was gracious, even though he seemed sullen after the loss.



I think she's ready for the next step in my plan to convert her to BYU fandom, BYU football.

Awesome sign, that's cool Jimmer signed it. He seems to manage his all-american profile with some humility. Seems like a genuinely likeable guy.

I thought we rebounded fine, especially considering we were playing a bit of zone and giving up size at most positions. I thought our defense struggled to deal with their length. I also thought our injuries finally caught up to us. Noah appeared listless. C.C. hadn't played in 3 weeks. Emery is still a 1/2 step slow from his injuries. Most of all, I thought Howland had his kids ready to guard Jimmer and they did a good job of guarding him. In fact, they guarded our whole team very well. We didn't catch it where or when we wanted to, we didn't handle it where or when we wanted to, and we didn't shoot it where orwhen we wanted to. Despite that, we scored enough points to win but played too much of the game without our best defenders. This was a good loss. I truly think this UCLA team will be a good team before the year is over.

I didn't bother looking at the stat sheet and missed most of the 1st half due to my Fox affiliate but in the 2nd half, it looked like the Bruins got a ton of 2nd and 3rd chances on the glass. We also turned the ball over way too many times. That being the case, giving up 86 points to a team that doesn't like to play fast tempo ball is not good.

I agree with your assessment though on Collinsworth and Hartsock. These types of games happen every once in awhile. I just hope we stick it to UNLV and SuckDogState.
