  • College freshman - last 10 years

Who is the most dominant college freshman that you've seen in the past decade?

Carmelo averaged 22 and 10 and led his team to a national title. Tyler Hansbrough averaged 19 and 8 and was a first team all-american. John Wall averaged 16.6, 4.3, 6.5, and 2.1 and most nights was easily the most talented player on a very talented team. Greg Oden averaged 15.7 ppg, 9.8 rpg, and 3.3 bpg. Beasley was at 26 and 12. Durant was 26, 12, and 2 steals/2 blocks.

Got wondering about this while reading up more on Harrison Barnes. The kid just seems to good to be true, and so I'm not quite sure what to expect out of him this season. UNC is going to someone to be a big scorer, so he should be able to really put up numbers in their fast pace system. He's had several people that have followed him say he's got Carmelo's game and Kobe's focus and drive. He's been called the best perimeter guy to come out of high school since LeBron. Roy Williams said that after they had UNC Late Night "Barnes took care of his obligations with family and teammates, and then was back in the gym putting up shots for an hour."

CBS pegged him as their preseason POTY, and said possibly the only drawback with Barnes is that he is so mature and so focused that he might be better suited to playing with NBA guys right now than college teammates. I don't see how anyone can live up to the hype he's been getting. But he's seemingly got all the physical tools, he's got a mature offensive game, and he's very driven. I'm very intrigued to see what he ends up doing.

Durrant was the best with Carmelo second. If Syracuse did not win the title that year, I think Anthony would not come to mind as quickly.
"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."

IMO, Kevin Durrant is the easy choice.

Easy? Based on the eye test?

          Offensive rating - Beasley 119.8, Durant 116.5

Off. Reb. rate - Beasley 13.3, Durant 9.0

Def. Reb. rate - Beasley 29.9, Durant 24.1

          Blk% - Beasley 5.3, Durant 5.5

          Stl% - Beasley 2.2, Durant 3.0

26 ppg and 12 rpg for each player, Beasley in 31 mpg and Durant in 35 mpg.

I'm with you BGRTHNUMEGO, I think people are putting current Durrant against current Beasley. I personally think it is a close thing but I think Beasley was more productive in his time on the court and better able to do the workhorse stuff.
