Power conference teams typically have several chances for good wins in conference, so really they don't have to schedule particularly aggressively in the nonconference. They only get hurt with regards to the NCAA tournament when they haven't distinguished themselves in conference and their OOC SOS is atrocious.

Tom Izzo is an asshole for advocating that mid majors not get autobids. You have to wonder whether schools like Gonzaga or Butler would have ever been able to build up programs without their conferences autobids which they needed 20-25 years ago.

Aside from that, why does he think anyone watches the first couple rounds? Does anyone care about his 8 vs 9 game today, or are people watching for the inevitable underdog upset?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Kentucky and BYU upset in the first round, this tourny is a success. And now Bedard is about to play hockey. This is a day Ice Cube would declare is a good day

At the west regional. First game (clemson/arizona) was boring and sloppy even though it was close at the end. Carolina/Alabama is making up for it. What a game.

It was a success before it even started because the Utes didn't make it.

What a dominant UConn team. No significant weaknesses.

                  Can UConn 3-peat??

I was really impressed with Clemson's team and their win over a bigger, more "talented" Arizona team. Clemson could shoot the 3, but weren't overally reliant on it. They are an above average P6 team that had a good tournament run. I don't think it would be unrealistic for BYU to try to model their offense and success (at least this season).

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Okay, this is officially the beginning of the end of college sports as an extension of the student body of a school. These are just professional teams that have a lot of regulations and can offer you an education in addition to money if you sign with them.

With NIL money being touted in public, it will be interesting to see how fans/boosters respond when a highly paid player stinks it up. My guess is there will be several college players who will cry like babies when they're harshly criticized for not "earning their pay".

Those guys will just hit the portal and take another NIL deal for the following year. That's the type of guy who already blames everyone else for his problems, so just blame his poor play on the coaching staff's misuse of his talents.

This is why they only way college FB and BB can be saved in a format that will hold interest and maintain the charade of being what people like about college sports is if NIL money is tied to a contract with the school.

So, if you want to transfer and you received NIL, you just can't? Or can the new school match it (not exceed - just pick up the remaining contract)? That wouldn't seem to slow the NIL money even to be effective. I'm sure there's a better proposal along these lines out there but I'm not up to speed on this topic.

But FTR, I agree something has to happen to restrain the NIL money or FB and BB are done in their current iteration.

There needs to be a cap. This is overly simplistic, but something like each team gets X amount of NIL space. You can spend up to Y amount on any one player and you can only spend that amount for up to Z players. If a Y-level player wants to transfer and the team he is transferring to doesn't have the cap space for another Y-level player, then then the player takes less or transfers elsewhere. This prevents one team from hoarding/acquiring too many Y-level players, and evens the field (which is probably why the big programs wouldn't want this plan). Regulating excess/underhanded payments would be an issue, but that's going to be an issue no matter what happens, IMO.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body.
