  • Marriott Center - at 50 years - your favorite memories.

Just got a text from BYU Today - marking the 50th anniversary of the J Willard Marriott Activities Center.

Seems like a lifetime ago. My dad was BYU faculty in 1971 and we had season tickets to football and basketball - with basketball still being played in the old Fieldhouse. When the Marriot Center opened - we had seats on Row 13. Went to every game when Cosic was there. Of course - have been in the MC hundreds of times through the years - including a Frank Arnold Basketball Camp where we scrimmaged on the floor.

Anybody else play an official game on the floor?

My favorite memory was the only basketball game I attended while a student. It was Dec 10, 1996 as BYU eaked out a win over Utah State by a score of 64-61. It was the only win that year and I have never let my USU Aggie brother forget that even when BYU was the worst team in D1 basketball, they could still beat USU. God bless Jeff Chapman.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
