  • Big XII Basketball would be just as awesome as Big XII football!

KSU, KU, Missou in the Marriott Center every year. UT, OK, A&M, every other year. The MC would be packed to the rafters for every Big XII basketball game. That hasn't routinely happened since the Ainge era...

Brother Holmoe, I hereby promise to get 5 season tickets for both basketball and football if you make this happen. And I'll upgrade to Gold in Cougar Club...

While I think football could do well in the Big 12, bball would not do all that well imo. They wouldn't be horrible, but I think most years they would finish in the 4th-7th spot in the conference, and that's only after a few years of adjustment.

Forget how they do. They'll almost always finish middle of the pack. Just think about who will be coming into town each year. THAT is what is awesome.

Awesome doesn't mean you always win. Awesome means you're playing against top competition and have something to get excited about.

We've been beating up on crappy teams for so long, no one remember what awesome means...

Agree. That's the main motivation to moving up conferences, basketball or football. The MWC will get an auto-bid and would provide the easiest way to BCS bowls.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Playing teams like Kansas every year will be exciting for the first few years, but when you lose most of the tiem the excitement level will diminish. That said I do believe bball attendance will go up permanently if we go to the Big 12, because we will get people coming to the games who just want to see teams like Kansas play.

The novelty will wear off after a couple of years and then the repeated beat downs will start to take their toll.

What makes you say this? David's ALWAYS willing to take on Goliath. It's the Goliaths that get sick of it.

The attendance numbers of schools that regularly get beat down.

Well sure, if they suck, people are going to stop caring.

But you forget--we, like Utah, are just a tier below Kansas.

The Utes have been getting beat down in basketball for a while now. It got them an invite to the PAC-10.

We won't get beat-down too often in the MC - Maybe beat, but bot blown out. the altitude adn 21000 loud fans make the MC a very daunting place to play. Which is why I don't think the novelty will wear down too fast. Even against the best of the Big XII, we won't be a push-over in the MC.

I;m hoping for consistently going something like 9-9 in the Big XII, scheduling a similar OOC schedule that we have now that will allow for something close to a 10-5 / 11-4 record there, and being a Big XII bubble team. In most years. That would get us better seeding than we're getting now as the #2 team in the MWC. It would also mean ~6 really great games at the MC every year, which is a hell of a lot more than now...
