  • Thoughts on tomorrow's big game

Utah is good enough to beat BYU at the Huntsman, especially since Luke seems to do better against true big men (as opposed to guys who are 3-4 inches shorter than him and tend to outwork him).

My biggest worry is we play BYU exactly like we did last year in Salt Lake. I'm not sure things could have worked out better for us on the defensive end, but we didn't have a field goal in the final 5:12 of the game and lost.

    I'll say 67-63 Utah.

Tomorrow's game is Utah's best shot at getting a win over BYU in the last couple of years.

It should be fun. I'll be there. Anyone else?

Comes down to whether BYU can keep their composure. They lost it against both UNLV and UNM, whom both played very tight in your face defensive games that required BYU to execute in the half court style at a premium, and well...BYU for the first time all season couldn't throw the ball in the ocean either of those games.

I think it comes down to a few things: #1. BYU's bigs have to come to play....they aren't going to shut down Luke,,,but at least make him work. I won't be upset if they get in foul trouble, because it'll tell me they are playing him tight,,,in fact I expect them to get into foul trouble....

#2. If Utah's shooters are clicking from 3 point range,,,,BYU will lose.

#3. BYU has to play with the same level of intensity they did against SDSU....they executed very well in the half court game, and were able to run enough to keep SDSU on their heels.

#4. If Utah continues to turn the ball over that will play right into BYU's run n gun style and Utah will be in trouble. Guaranteed that's the #1 thing Boylen is emphasizing to his guys in practice......turn the ball over against BYU and you're dead.

#5. I think Utah wins on their homecourt....72-68

You know Point number 3 is very important. BYU only had 2 fast break points vs SDSU yet still scored 77 points. Teams will start doubling Jimmer on the inbounds and force someone else to bring it up. Hartsock did do a nice job on one play breaking the press and dishing to Mcgregor for a layup. BYU will need more of this and they need to make it hurt when they double team the inbounds off of made baskets. Also expect to see a lot more of Lamont and Jimmer in together.

Miles, Anderson, Mcgregor and Hartsock that is 20 fouls if we dont use at least 15 of them I will be disappointed.

I'd like to go, but after my last experience up on the Hill, I think I'll wait til' the game next month at the Marriott Center.

By the way....who's planning on going to the MWC Tourney?

I'm probably gonna get my tickets here in the next 2-3 weeks.

mine will be a week of game decision, depending on work schedule. sounds like fun, though.

If you do go let me know and we can hook up for dinner one night. I've never been to anywhere in Vegas besides In n Out and the buffets, and I know there's lots of good places.

I'm going. Or staying, as it were.

I think BYU loses a close one and ends up splitting the series with the Utes this year.

I think that this is a must-win for Utah. I know it is early, but you have to defend your homecourt and you especially have to do so against your rival.

                          Utah 75 BYU 67

One of your centers will have three fouls in the first half.

We need our big boys to play a great game tomorrow. Nevill is good. We need Miles, Mac, and Anderson to play some D, be aggressive on O.

I think this is a big game. BYU wins, they could get on a roll, like they have the last few years. I think Jimmer, Jackson, Cummard and JT get it done.
