  • Dana Altman the new head coach at Oregon

As much of a cluster as their search was, this is a great hire. I would have loved Altman to come to Utah after Majerus (although he said no thanks to that mess).

If Oregon fans give him a chance and aren't pissed because they didn't get their name, they could really have gotten the right guy.

I was in Omaha for Creighton's regular season finale and was shocked at how much crap Altman was getting for a 4th place finish. I think he got sick of it.

Altman's a great coach. Creighton fans seem to have caught a bit of the Utah.
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

Yeah it seems to be catching. I guess you're lucky with that staff of yours Wyoming won't be getting the Utah's anytime soon (ok that is unfair, but think as bad as Wyoming is Colorado just willingly made Steve McClain their coach. I can't think of an athletic department in the MWC worse than Colorado).

I was speaking more of the fanbase mentality, but you already knew that. CU hired Northern Co's coach btw, but McClain was in the mix. I heard he bombed his interview. He took an asst. position @ Indiana.

Oh Im well aware of what the Utah fanbase has become. But I thought ratboy was a lock for that job. Damn who knew.

Anyway take refuge in your correct call about Marshall Henderson, who the hell ever heard of a player leaving because his individualism might be harmed.

He should have gone to Wake with Bzzzzzzdilic. He would have retained his asst. head coaching gig in a much better situation.

I don't know that I'd be terribly excited about this hire. Sure, Altman is fine. He's had several 20 win seasons, but he's coming off a 18-16 season and I'm not so sure 22-11 - an average good season for him - in the Missouri Valley is anything to write home about.

A good coach, to be sure, but a home run he is not.

                You are seriously mistaken.

Had this hire happened 4 weeks ago I think most Duck fans would have been happy with it. After 6 weeks of name dropping and chasing national profile guys this seems like a let down.

I am glad they gave him a 7 year deal so nobody gets any ideas about running him out of town if/when he struggles for a year or two. He already has Polle from So Cal and Jones from Portland back to interested in Oregon, if he lands one or both of them I'll be thrilled.

If he gets Jones, I'll be on sitting right next to Crimson on the bandwagon. I don't know how a guy as highly touted as Jones could be underrated, but in my opinion, he is. Jones is the #3 overall HS prospect, IMO, if not higher.

Don't forget Altman was offered and for a few minutes took the Arkansas job. I know Dana Altman isn't the sexy name you wanted but he is one of those guys who can go to a place like Oregon and be a winner.

I really believe you somehow hit a home run out of all of this.

He's definitely not a homerun hire. In 16 years at Creighton he has one outright MWC title (two shared). Lifetime winning percentage .627. Never been out of the NCAA tournament 2d round. Before Creighton was forced out at Kansas State winnng just over half his games in four years.

Comrade gets these inexplicable fanatical allegiencies.

I agree he isn't a homerun, but he is a base hit perhaps even a double. When Kent took the Oregon job it was probably between the 175-200th best job in college basketball. Kent elevated the job to where it was between the 80-100th best job in college basketball. If Altman can spend 10+ years here and move Oregon to the 35-45 range then when he is done Oregon will be able to attract the homerun guy.

He hasn't owned the MVC, but he has been to post season play (NCAA or NIT) for 13 straight years. Given Oregon's basketball history that would be the best coach in the history of the program.

As opposed to you who keeps allegiances to people who crapped on the very program you claim to love.

He has an outright MWC title in the MVC? I would say the fact that he can win a MOuntain West title in a different conference makes him a homerun.
