The duration is meaningless. It's the buyout on either side that matters.

I think New Mexico is fortunate to have Alford. He seems to be a good x's and o's coach and one big thing he brings is star quality. I think having been Bobby Knight's pet, won a national championship, been a first-team all-American and played in the NBA has to help recruiting. He's a celebrity. He was an inspired hire. Iowa is a hard place to coach.

I don't think Alford was ever on Oregon's radar. From word I got yesterday they have made an offer to only one person, he approached them when his team's season ended. They are stuck somewhere between $4 mil Oregon's offer and $5 mil the coaches initial request.
