  • Steve Lavin back in coaching...

    St. John's hires Lavin

    Any thoughts?

Lavin is a very good coach, IMO. It's a good move by St. John's.

I think this is a good move for a great coach. I have always been a fan of Lavin's.

I too think he is a good coach and a good hire. I don't remember any baggage that he has.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Great hire. In the other thread about what coaches you would want Lavin was one of the guys I mentioned. I love Lavin. The dude is a good coach and a hell of a recruiter. He didn't miss many kids out of LA when he was at UCLA.

I'm getting old. I didn't realize he had been out of the coaching loop that long. 2003 was forever ago.

I think Lavin could make St. Johns relevant again and a power in the Big East. Especially if he can get the city behind him. And he has that kind of charisma to do that. If he can recruit out of New York and New Jersey like he did in California he's going to be very successful in a short period of time.

I think he'll have an easier time getting kids to play for him at St. John's, because they'll be closer to home where their family and friends can see them play more often.

He really can recruit. I wonder if the back court matches up with the forwards.

New York. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
