  • Official Ute NCAA Tournament Memories Thead

Share the memories everyone. Open mike.

I'll start. This game reminds me of Utah's game against Michigan State that got Majerus into his first Sweet 16; Utah won in double OT. I recall Michigan State tied the score at end of regulation or the first overtime with a four point play. Does anyone have a similar memory?

I remember in 1998 everyone picked the Utes to lose to Arkansas in the second round. 100% of the ESPN guys said they'd go down to Arkansas. But Andre single handedly destroyed their press (40 minutes of hell; oh yeah!).

After that, I had a good feeling about an Elite 8 game against Arizona, but first the Utes had to beat West Virginia. It was a team a lot like West Virginia this year--kind of a mirror image of a Majerus team. Very tough. All the pundits said the game would be close.

So, I went with a bunch guys from my office to watch the game at this sports bar. We happened to have a table by a bunch of WV fans all dressed up and cheering loudly. THey were a hard bunch, looked like bikers. All the other lawyers at my table didn't give a hoot about the Utes. They kind of teased me, in fact. I just sat qiuetly while all those West Virginia fans cheered like crazy for their team.

It went down to the last shot. So, as the game wound down, West Virginia is down by 3 in the final seconds, its high scoring guard dribbles it the length of the court as seconds tick off, stops and fires a picture perfect 3 point buzzer shot. It rims an rolls and falls out.

I yelled "YEAH!!!" It was unbelievably loud. I was humiliated when I realized what I'd done. The whole place went quiet and looked at us, and the guys sitting with me were all blushing. I thought the WV guys would want to fight me, but they just looked at me.

That does sound pretty embarrassing, I'm glad you were able to recover.

1983. Freshman Manny Hendrix hit a contested layup in the closing seconds to beat Illinois. Next game Angelo Robinson's defense shuts down high school friend Rocket Rod Foster as the U beats heavily favored UCLA to get to the Sweet 16.

I'll always remember Peter Williams dunking the ball at the buzzer to finish off the Bruins. It was a long inbound pass from Pace Mannion.

All of my Utah NCAA tournament memories involve Utah ending its tournament run with a loss.

Is that the sort of thing you are talking about here? I agree that those are special memories.

On that note I remember watching that 1998 championship game with my roommates. At halftime we were getting ready to head up to Salt Lake City to participate in some debauchery. Then they blew it and we ended up staying in Provo to play Goldeneye on the N64.

If those are your memories, then those are applicable here. Of course, it makes you a hater like ZOhio, but if you can live with that, more power to you.

busting out the ZOhio insult is worse than the exUte comparison.

                    It is also unfair.

Sure, that was nice, but he couldn't tackle worth a shit.

Marc Jackson as a sophmore D-ing up on Luke Ridenour in an 8/9 matchup forcing him to unsuccessfully go left all game. Utes beat the Ducks. (Sorry HFN)

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

YOhio should be proud. I consider one of my greatest achievements on this board to be SU calling me Slurfah and Sherpa. Now I just need to get an 'oh brother' from Lebowski.

Man, I hate to admit this but I really liked Marc Jackson.
