In first round NIT action, 4 seed North Carolina is losing at home to 5 seed William & Mary with 4 minutes left. Some would call this a 16 vs 17 "play in" game in the 96-team scenario, the winner getting Kentucky on Thursday.

Someone put together a possible 96-team bracket.

Obviously it's imprecise in regards to seeding and repeat match-ups (USU vs. Weber St in the first round), but still interesting to consider. A lot of bad teams."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Some of those games seem alright and plenty seem about as exciting as the current play-in game.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostSomeone put together a possible 96-team bracket.

I say. If there ever comes a point where there is so much parity that you see a 16 upset a 1 seed every 5 years or so, add another round and make it a home game for the higher seed. So it would be 128 teams.
I doubt there will ever be such parity though.

Jay Bilias(SP) was on Mike-n-Mike in the Morning and his line of reasoning against an expansion was that in the past was that someone what had a chance to win was left out. That is not the case now, so he was against it. He used the examble of Maryland 20yrs ago who won the ACC reg season and was left out of the Tourney because they were upset in the conference tourney. I tend to agree with him.
I may be small, but I'm slow.

The expansion to 96 is "likely" going to happen in 2011, for financial reasons:

Instead of expanding by 34 teams to allow in 3-6 bubble teams that maybe deserve to be in, why not expand from 65 to 72. Have 4 play in games where those 8 last bubble teams play on Tuesday and Wednesday for the right to be 10 seeds in each region. Stop having two 16 seeds playing the play in game and have the play ins mean something.Get confident, stupid

If you make the tournament have games all day on Tuesday-Friday you are going to lose a lot of attendance and viewers. It is one thing to play hooky one or two days a week, now you are talking about a whole week. Not many people that can make that happen.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostSomeone put together a possible 96-team bracket.

I just don't understand the money that this expansion is going to generate. I guess it's all going to come via TV, because it certainly isn't going to be generated via ticket sales. The first round crowds across the country looked pathetic on TV."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic
