We will know that the MWC has arrived the day it feels it can host its tournament outside of Las Vegas. WHAT A JOKE. On what basis does the fourth place team get to play the entire post-season that determines the conference champion on its home floor? I don't care how much 3D likes to load up on the greasy buffets and take his kids to Circus Circus. That's not what sport is about. I agree with those here who have said BYU should just have boycotted the whole thing. If someone other than UNLV wins the tournament at Thomas-Mack it means something. If UNLV does it's stupid, it's not fair. Who cares.

The regular season determines the true champion of the conference. The conference tournament is a dog and pony show that is given far too much weight and reward.

That can't be true. If it were, why would Roger Reid buy his team rings for winning the tournament?

Of course, the outright regular-season champ has never been left out of the NCAA tournament. The MWC has enough reputation and respect to be a multi-bid league every single year. If this were the WAC or C-USA, then you'd have a story.

For all the bitching that people do about UNLV, they've only won the tourney twice on their home floor.

That is besides the point. It is a yes/no question-is having the tourny on their home floor an advantage? Yes. end of story.

If it makes a lot of money for the conference I'm fine having the tournament in Las Vegas.

I was previously in favor of moving it to the Orleans Arena to negate the "home court" advantage. But at least in the way they had it set up in December it only had about 8K seats. It didn't seem like a very good place to watch or play the games.

They are 16-3 all time when the MWC tourney is played in Vegas.

Well, three times. The tournament was in Vegas 2000-2003, and UNLV won the tournament in 2000 (as well as '07 and '08). They've also lost in the tournament final three times on their home floor.

No question it's an advantage. Especially when you are playing 3 games in 3 nights, being able to play on your home court and sleep in your own bed is huge.

I find my position on this varies year to year. Actually, these days I'm feeling higher on tournaments. They seem more meaningful to me.

I wanted to see what it feels like to be a BYU sycophant like Il Padrino.

That would be a good stat for the "no big deal on UNLV's court" crowd, had UNLV been a number 1 seed every year. But they NEVER are and still make it to the champ game every year.

                          Agreed. I think it's ridiculous.

for the record we don't take our kids to Circus Circus.
