Have you ever tried to play DI basketball with the stomach flu?Originally posted by mpfunk View PostWe are only 2 games away from never having to watch Tille and Drca play another game. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Of course, it is a little known fact that I was a star DI basketball player and had my best game when I had the stomach flu. I don't see how this is relevant to the purpose of this thread though. Please, focus on the purpose of this thread.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostHave you ever tried to play DI basketball with the stomach flu?

Too bad Carlon is only a junior, eh?
I was thinking about Whitt vs. Boylen's coaching, and I think that Whitt has one great strength that Boylen lacks: Whitt always looks at his players with fresh eyes. No one ever stays on Whitt's first team because of past performance. No one ever plays for Whitt on inertia. He is constantly able to reassess talent based on "what have you done for me lately," and he rotates guys in and out. Boylen clings to players who had a good game 3 years ago (Luka). He runs plays based on advantageous matches that he saw last year. He is loyal to a fault. He coaches his team based upon his players' potential, not based upon what they are delivering today.
You can bet your bottom Whitt would have discovered Hines can play the point about a month ago, and he already would have lots of plays drawn up for Hines. Whitt's teams get better over the season, and Boylen's teams have shown zero improvement in the second half of the season.

I really like those guys. They'll be missed.
I hope they find success in all their endeavors.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I agree completely. Three weeks into this season it should have been apparent that this season was lost. He should have sat Drca and Tille's asses on the bench and played the young guys and built for next year.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostToo bad Carlon is only a junior, eh?

In a lot of ways, I have lost my love for Ute basketball and I guess I just don't care that much anymore. I can stand losing, but I hate watching a coach sacrifice the future to let a couple of really bad players play because they are seniors. If we have a starting lineup of Hines, Brown, Glover, Watkins, and Foster, I may have actually had some interest in watching games. When you are starting Drca and Tille, I have no interest in the game.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

What makes you think Hines can play the point? That's interesting.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostToo bad Carlon is only a junior, eh?

Mark my words, if Hines is developed, he will be a great point guard. SU, you were also right about Watkins-- he is a better player than I thought, and his attitude is 1000% better than I thought it would be. Watkins is great at shooting after contact, but looks a little wild if he gets no contact. I'm ready to toss Carlon Brown, and I cant figure out why--he has all the skills but is really bad at playing in the Utah system (such as it is). The only thing I can think of is that Carlon is so athletic the game slows down for him, much slower than his teammates, so the passes Carlon thinks are just-in-time come too fast to his teammates, and he throws the ball away time and time again.
Even tho I am a cougar fan, you cannot watch as many ute games as I have and not care about the team a little bit. It felt so odd tonight in my BYU hoodie, when Ute fans would good naturedly kid me about being in "their" house. Utah fans who havent been to a single game this year except for tonight.

I would agree, the play of Hines over the last 2-3 weeks has been the lone bright spot IMO. Also interesting that all of the walk-ons got in the game and Cyphers was on the pine. His departure will free up another schollie.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostToo bad Carlon is only a junior, eh?
