  • Thought this was interesting regarding Glens Falls, NY and Jimmer

    http://www.poststar.com/sports/artic...cc4c03286.html

I was perusing their paper to see if Jimmer gets much love in his hometown. The answer is quite a bit, of course. Anyway the Mayor has written BYU and proposed that BYU come to Glens Falls next season and take on an East Coast opponent. His hope is that Jimmer gets to play in front of his hometown fans and BYU gets some Eastern exposure.

BYU vs Syracuse in Glenns Falls anyone? FYI, the civic center seats 6,000.

The letter is addressed to Brigham Young University. It urges the Cougars to schedule a men's basketball game at the Glens Falls Civic Center during the 2010-11 season. The reason should be fairly obvious: So that Glens Falls native Jimmer Fredette can play in his hometown.
"He's been a big part of this community,'' Diamond said. "He got his exposure in Glens Falls. ... We want to keep Glens Falls' name out there nationally. Why not reach out to BYU?''

Rose has acknowledged this. He said he promised Jimmer a game in New York when he recruited him. There's a good chance BYU will be invited to the coach's cancer tournament in NYC next year. If not, he's going to try to get this game done in Glen Falls, but he probably won't do both.

I would be very surprised not to see BYU at the Jimmy V Classic next year. Between Coach Rose's story and BYU's national profile the past couple of years, this would make perfect sense.

BYU should definitely do this as one more enticement for Jimmer to stay for his Senior year, in case that is an issue.

Apparently, according to prof-bball, Jimmer will only go if he feels like he's a surefire 1st rounder - and possibly not even then.

That's good to hear. We have another chance for a special team next year again with Jimmer. Without him, it could be hard times.

It'd be a fun game, for sure.... but I doubt Syracuse would even entertain the idea.

There were some fans from Glen Falls at the game last night. They were sitting about ten rows in front of us. It looked like they made the trip all the way out just for Jimmer. They were obviously not BYU fans since they were both wearing red.

FTR, that was from somebody on CB paraphrasing prof-bball.

I saw them they had GF nation shirts on. It was Glen Falls Nation. Glen Falls colors I am guessing are red.

What was funny is a friend of mine talked to them last night and one of the kids said:

"Yeah Jimmer used to go to this huge church that had a basketball court and he would play against all these brothas and just school them"

It was like he had no clue Jimmer was LDS, BYU was an LDS school and that the majority of LDS churches have basketball courts in them.

I see Glen Falls stickers everywhere I go, it seems. Everyone is putting those things on their cars. Jimmer madness is out of control.

I would love for this to happen.

Jimmer's parents were in town for the game yesterday.

The profile of playing the Jimmy V would be better for BYU, however the story of playing in the civic center in Jimmer's home town would be a better story. Especially if they could get NY team. Syracuse might be to good, but St. John's or Seaton Hall from New Jersey.

The best team they could get to come to the civic center would be Siena.
