  • LDS Night at the Warriors!

Really it is Jazz fan night at the warriors, but they call it LDS night, because even thought their own coach has abandoned them, the front promotions office still pretends to care about the Ws. After the game all those who care are goiong to gater in a courtside section and listen to Thurl Bailey talk about something. I am not sure if it will be about the game or about his testimony, but whatever it is I am sure it will be uplifting.

If all breaks right today I will attend with my son. Anyone else going to be there?
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Serious question -- if LDS Night is something they do every year, did you go last year and was there any heckling due to the Prop 8 thing?

Yes I went last year and I did nto notice any heckling. Of course I was sitting in a section full of mormons.

Tonight the Oakland mission is going to ahve a missionary choir sing the national anthem, and their will be some sort of basketball game between a couple of young mens teams at halftime, so it will eb a better test. Last year was very low key.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

That does sound fun. but alas, it is free pizza night at Round Table for the bluegoose family (the pizza joint, not the useless scout meeting). And nothing (NOTHING!!!) beats out free pizza and the Olympics - not even a Bro Bailey fireside.

Follow up question - If BYU lands a first round March Madness game in San Jose like Joe Lunardi is projecting, who among us would be willing to house several lonely travelers from the north for a night?

Backyard? I was hoping to set up a tent in his living room!

BTW, have you seen his living room yet? Will it fit my 20' x 12' monster or should I go with the dome tent instead?

I still remember the on-the-street reporting done during the Jazz/Warriors series two years ago. Listening to native Oaklandites (ers, esses, whatever) give incredible detail about what they knew about the state of Utah was reporting at its finest. "Lots a white folk and snow"

Juding by his vacation schedule, I suspect your monster tent will fit underneath his dining room table.

That sounds awesome and very prog of the Mission president. It is one of radiohead's best songs. I would be curious to see how they interpret it...esp the horn section.

If only to dispel the false impression I reside at Xanadu, we would be happy to host any Cuffers who are in town for the first/second round games. We've got spare bedrooms with en suite bath facilities (I reveal this to alleviate concerns about the lingering effects of my own visits to the WC). We're a 30 minute drive from the tourney's location. Bring bikes and we can work in a fun ride up to Calaveras Reservoir or Mt. Diablo.

As for the Warriors game, can't make it, although the idea of driving to the Arena to watch a halftime game of Church ball is very tempting.

THe LDS night at the warriors was very low key. ABout 45 missionaries trotted out before the game and sang th national anthem. They did ok, but the high note turned into some weirds polychord that I am sure was nto intended. No boos or cat calls. I am not sure the crowd knew what was going on.

AFter half time they flashed the names of the northern califorinia stakes that were a part of LDS night. As the various names went buy you would hear scattered applause and cheers. No boos, no catcalls. But, again, no reference ot mormons or to the full name of the church or even of Jesus Chrsit.

THe game itself was a snoozer. Jazz took control in 2Q and cruised from there. The Ws a re a bad team.
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Once a year they have Mormon night at the Padres, and it's a funny sight because the ballpark is usually only one-third full, but lo and behold on Mormon night the cheapest section in the house is completely packed (the highest outfield seats). They're normally only $5 per seat but you can get the whole family for $15. Was it like that last night at Warrior arena?

Dodger night used to be the same way. I loved going to Mormon Night as a kid.

You forgot to mention that Thurl Bailey presented former Warriors great Al Attles with 4 generations of his family tree courtesy of the LDS church.
