Moose, you're a liar. You deserved the suspension you got there.
You are nothing but a worthless troll over at ufn and you should receive a lifetime ban over there. I'm not sure why webmonkey tolerates you as much as he does, but please do this board a favor and go away."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

U.S. Navy Ships and the Name Game
Everything made sense until after World War II, when we stopped building battleships. Up to that point it was really simple: Battleships were named for U.S. states (i.e., Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin); heavy and light cruisers were named for U.S. cities (i.e., San Fransisco, Atlanta, Chicago, Salt Lake City); destroyers and destroyer escorts were named for naval heroes or other prominent navy men (i.e., Samuel B. Roberts, The Sullivans, Lyman K. Swenson, Cassin Young); when aircraft carriers came along, they were named for battles in American history (i.e., Lexington, Yorktown, Bunker Hill, Belleau Wood) or famous navy ships (i.e., Enterprise, Essex, Hornet, Wasp); and submarines were named for marine life (i.e., Shark, Sealion, Harder, Hake).
Then, in 1945, a precedent was set when a new aircraft carrer of the Midway class was named for the just departed Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Still, it wasn't until the 1960s that things began to get out of control. Up until then attack subs were still being named for marine life. That changed late in the decade when Admiral Hyman G. Rickover declared, "Fish don't vote."

Col. Klink: "I didn't mean you sir, you're not clever."
