It is a wonderful thing. The apostacy always clears out the asshats first. However, they will be back.

So BYU's b-ball program is going to see an influx of asshats? Maybe you guys should rethink that sweet 16 idea

I can deal with asshats. I have been a die hard BYU football fan since I was 8. Besides that name another university with a triple combination of hoops, football and university made ice cream as righteous as the BYU's!

Think about this theory. The number of asshat fans in the world are fixed and "x" live in Utah. First they were BYU FB fans, then they were Jazz fans, next they were U football fans, next they will be BYU b-ball fans. Where do they flow next? SUU? USU? Return to the Jazz. Maybe we can get that guys from "Numb3ers" to do a scatter-gram to predict the next asshat migration in Utah.

There is an interesting victim complex with Utah sports fans. Mormons obviously have a victim complex going back to Governor Boggs and Buchanen's Blunder, those not of the LDS faith living in Utah believe themselves victims of oppression at the hands of the Mormon Majority. Stringpullers abound and it can make liking teams from down that way a real chore to non asshats like yourself and myself.

Some good posts at UF.N about the current state of Utah basketball:

              http://www.utefans.net/message.php?id=962583

              and:

              http://www.utefans.net/message.php?i...#message962616

              and:

              http://www.utefans.net/message.php?i...#message962625

Basically, Utah lost 4 players to graduation. Those four played 80% of the minutes. Giving the seniors 80% of the minutes last year didn't help this year's team. This year the break down of minutes is 29% Freshman, 23% Soph, 24% Jr, and 25% Sr.

You have just stated why although I love the State of Utah, love being from there, and love visiting there . . . I do not miss living there.

Interesting, they just showed a stat during the BYU vs Wyoming game and the lowest point production by class for BYU this year is coming from the Srs.

As far as crappy fandom goes, Utah, IMO, takes the cake, and easily. I've heard a few theories in regards to it, with one suggesting that since there isn't much to do here, people become obsessive about the various sports teams within the state.

However, the inferiority complex seems to be the biggest and most logical factor. Sure, theres some of that coming from the LDS population up here, but I think that Utahns in general crave recognition and appraisal. For some its because they think they're too closely associated with the LDS culture. For others its mere persecution by the non-believers. I've seen it. You've seen it. Utah doesn't get the country's approval, hence the needy and very annoying fans.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched Sports Center or ESPN news and after a lengthy recap of a previous NBA game, a Jazz recap feels like an afterthought. We all know how the rest of the country feels about teams like TCU, Utah, and BYU.

So, I really do agree with those who say this behavior comes from and inferiority/persecution complex. It makes sense to me. At this stage, all I can do is get on my high horse and pretend I'm a "good" fan.
