Fredette has mononucleosis but still could play Saturday
A member of BYU’s traveling party in El Paso this evening has confirmed that guard Jimmer Fredette has been diagnosed with mononucleosis.
However, Fredette made the trip to Texas and still may seem some limited playing time in Saturday night’s nonconference game against UTEP.
The diagnosis of mono more clearly explains why Fredette was sluggish and easily winded in Wednesday’s 77-73 win over UNLV. Doctors do not believe it has anything to do with a skin rash that Fredette developed due to an allergic reaction to medication he was taking for strep throat.
That’s why Fredette wore a long-sleeved white shirt under his jersey against the Rebels.
