Now let's hope that they don't go out and let the Rebs or the Miners knock them out this week.Originally posted by scottie View PostTwo things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

One thing I will say about the playoffs in college basketball vs the bowls of college football, it surely makes the rankings system seem a lot more pointless in b-ball, at least to me. I care that BYU goes better than .500 on the road in conference and wins all of their home games. Rankings mean little else as BYU will be in and out of the polls all season I'm guessing. Still, nice to see that national recognition I guess. Do rankings have little influence on tournament seeding?Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostOne thing I will say about the playoffs in college basketball vs the bowls of college football, it surely makes the rankings system seem a lot more pointless in b-ball, at least to me. I really hope we can maintain our ranking through the rest of the year. It seems in the past as soon as we get ranked, we get bounced out. End of season rankings aren't that important to a seed, but it is nice to be getting recognition all through the year, since the top 25 is featured in the game scores, highlights, etc.

That's because we get ranked towards the end of the year and then lose in the LV Invitational and 1st round of the NCAAs.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI really hope we can maintain our ranking through the rest of the year. Two big games this week. I am beginning to think that UNM and BYU might play in Albuquerque in a few weeks with both highly ranked and on big win streaks. I think both can beat Cal State San Diego on the Mesa.Originally posted by scottie View PostDo Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

There seems to be a sizable difference between where UNLV is ranked in the Coaches Poll (29th) versus the AP (44th). I wonder what accounts for that disparity.

USA Today: 31 voters, 39 points = 1.3 votes per voter
AP: 65 voters, 12 points = 0.2 points per voter
I guess you'd have to decide if that difference is all that significant or not. You can also look at if from another direction:
Teams voted worse than UNLV
USA Today: 318
AP: 303
