  • Foul Trouble

This is a pet peeve of mine.

Some guys are always in foul trouble. Some guys are never in foul trouble.

Rose's big men have always seemed to be in more foul trouble than our opponents. Is something he's not coaching well?

Miles hacked a guy early in the second half. The guy double clutched and Miles had no chance to block the shot, he knew it, but he wanted to stop the layup, so he conceded the foul, gave him a hard foul and stopped the layup.

Miles comes out of the game, coaches give him high fives and say "good job", and Miles sits on the bench in foul trouble.

Even the announcer says "that was a good job by Miles not to give him the easy 2".

The Wake Forest guy makes both his free throws and now Miles is out of the game.

    What's wrong here?

Another dumb play was when Lee hacked a guy in the backcourt with a lazy attempt at a steal coming across the guy's back. Easy call. Lee's now on the bench with his third foul.

JT doesn't play like a brainiac but he's never in foul trouble because he's smart to know when he can gamble with a swat and when he can't because he's borderline foul trouble.

I think sometimes we need to remember that these are young kids. For example Lees first foul was very stupid and a swipe at a ball he had no chance to get. But it came after he missed a wide open look and it was clearly nothing but frustration.

Miles picked up two fouls where he was completely straight up, and I thought they were cheap. But then other times he picks up cheap fouls because he leaves his feet and tries to put the ball in the 8th row every time. I think that Miles has to realize he is 6'11 and that he can go straight up and be effective.
