    Jimmer's shooting percentage

This is the worst BYU BB take I've seen in a long time. Let's break down Jimmer's numbers.

12/30 from three point land 40%. Excellent shooting, especially from a point guard who is not usually being set up by his teammates.

Excluding those shots, he is 30/71 for 42%. That's really not a bad percentage from a perimeter player, but assume it is. What you have to do to see his overall scoring efficiency is to add in the FT's. Anyone watching Jimmer's game knows he wants to get to the paint, draw a foul, and get to the FT line.

He's 48/51 from the FT line, which is essentially adding 24 makes on 25 attempts to his field goal tally, making him 54/96 for an outstanding 56%.

Jimmer's PPS (my definition which adds one FG for every two attempts) is an amazing 1.14. That is an incredible PPS for a point guard.

For comparison, JT is at 0.86 PPS by my definition.

He's been in a slump and last night he was really off, but he's still the most valuable player on this team. He's over-dribbling but to suggest he's shooting too much is way off.

I do not think he said he was shooting to much. Also why does this need its own thread?

What the hell are you talking about? I just highlighted the struggles Jimmer has had the last 4 games without opining as to the cause(s). To call that a "take" is just flat inaccurate.

Furthermore, to categorize a PPS of 1.14 as "amazing" is a much worse take than anything I said.

For a point guard with the ball in his hands all the time and being the designated late-in-the-shot-clock shooter, it's excellent. Don't be Mr. Innocent. You've been waiting three years for a couple bad games by Jimmer to break out with that take.

I completely agree. All the people who are only looking at Jimmer's shooting percentage last night, don't understand basketball. You can't overstate how valuable it is to have a PG that can penetrate at will and get to the foul line. It disrupts the opposing team's defense and opens up the game for everyone else. It's not an accident that we doubled up ASU on assists last night. I wish Jimmer had made more of his shots last night, but I don't think we would have won the game last night without him.

1.14 PPS is NOT excellent. BTW, Jimmer's PPS is significantly higher than 1.14

I actually sent a text to a CUf'er last night during the game and said something similar as Non Seq. Eventhough Jimmer was 1-14 he still gets to the line which helps, and still gets his teammates involved. He is dangerous without hitting a high percentage of shots.

I'm against 80-somthings that think they have the requisite wit to successfully banter on messageboards.

                      True. Jimmer's 1 for 14 is better than JT's 1 for 14.

I agree its not stellar by any means but better than someone like JT.

Another note on this. Jimmer was getting absolutely hacked last night and not getting any calls. He easily could have gotten four more calls resulting in another 8 points.

I agree that he has not been getting the calls he got last year.

Wow, Jay. That is pretty pathetic. Indy provided some stats that show Jimmer has been struggling with his shot.

I guess I missed the part of his post where he mentioned Jimmer should be benched and have his scholarship taken away.
