I'm generally opposed to missions particularly for basketball players. It think they're career killers, when it comes to football finesse positions or basketball. But if you're 7-3 I think the added two years of maturity and bulk might be a net benefit, like a lineman. I think Foster might be a real impact player this year. He seems like a good kid, too.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I kept waiting for him to serve in my ward so I could convince him to transfer to BYU, but he never did. I saw him out in the lobby once, but didn't have a chance to convert him.

I'm looking forward to what this kid can do, as my understanding is that he's rather athletic for a kid his size. I'm not expecting much this season being that he just returned from a mission, but the next few years could be good times if he turns out to be as good as expected.

I'm also ready to watch Washburn. If he plays with half the enthusiasm he displayed on the bench during his redshirt season last year, he'll be a lot of fun to watch.

We Ute fans appreciate the lack of effort on your part.

If only Shawn Bradley had come back and played at BYU post-mission we would have a better idea of how that 2-year mission layoff could potentially work out for a big guy like Foster. I suspect that Bradley would have been pretty mediocre in the NBA with or without the mission, but it would have been interesting to compare college stats before and after the mission.

I think it's hard to argue that a mission benefits any athlete -- I'm not sure even the BYU linemen benefit as much as is commonly believed.

Somewhat random, irrelevant comment: By happenstance I have gotten to know Shawn Bradley and he is an excellent human being. I love the guy.

LA, you're slowly letting out your Mormon celebrity connections. I'll add this to your admission to knowing Neal L. Maxwell. Soon enough, you'll be competing with SoonerCoug for in the category of who knows more well-known Mormon people.

If you get long enough in the tooth you end up knowing a lot of people.

Agreed. Shawn is a great guy and one of the nicest people on the planet.

I think Washburn will be a baller. I don't know about Foster.
