All employees at my place of business have to go through training on our "Code of Conduct" every year. They do it all through on-line computer-based training. Very boring stuff.
So I did it this afternoon, and got to the final part of the training - a link to the actual Code of Conduct, and a second button to click that says "I have read the Code of Conduct." I clicked through on the Code of Conduct, to find that the stupid thing is 60 pages long. I REALLY don't want to read it...
So should I click back and just hit the "I have read the Code of Conduct" button? I haven't read it. I've talked to about 10 people about it, and none of them have actually read it - although all clicked the button saying that they have. I can't IMAGINE anyone actually sitting down and reading all the way through it - but apparently that's what they want us to do - or at least that's what they want us to say we have done.
To click or not to click?
(The woman who sits at the next cube over had an interesting solution. She wrote "The Code of Conduct" on my white board and told me that I can now click-through with a clear conscience. It's not really a conscience issue. I just find it strange and ironic...)
I'm going to 'skim' it. Not really the same as having read it, but I'll live...
