Tim,
I am not sure what I did to piss you off this morning. Please explain how me posting such a thing is considered a "Drive By".. I have made a total of 11 new posts here in this section. I guess you can consider some of those as drive-bys (I would say actually maybe 4 of them..). But is it really that many? Look, I enjoy the discussions, I enjoy talking about current events and things that interest me. Yes I very much am a republican and at times it is very clear with my opportunities to show things from the other side that are not so good. Both party lines have people like this (You in fact are not sinless in this as well. Your Joe Wilson post is no different then my post here).. We are people, and we have differing opinions and that is good. I enjoy the diverse discussion. I find the people here very interesting and in fact I enjoy those who are not like me.
I found this news worthy with ACORN so well connected to community organizers and what is happening in our country right now. So I posted it. I guess I could of made a different statement in my thread so it wasn't so condenscending.
But to be fair. The same could be said about you and your rants over time as well.. And you and I have had our run-ins. So I guess I should not expect for you to treat me any different.. In the past, I know I would of gone off on you in a tirade of rants for your comment but I am trying to not be such a hot head..
If it bothers you, sorry..Last edited by dabrockster; 09-10-2009, 07:23 AM.

Yo, you're reading way too much into this. I'm not pissed, I'm not bothered. I'm simply stating that the kind of post you just made, one in which a link to a heavily-biased article is included, without any commentary from you or reasons why you agree with it or disagree with it -- in other words, no conversation starter -- well, that's just not how this community works. That's how things are done over on that other board that most of us here are happily trying to stay away from.Originally posted by dabrockster View PostTim,

OK, I will try and do that next time. I understand what you are saying and I will work on that more, but Tim, if you are going to "educate" me on how the board works you could of taken a better tone with it.
You have to understand. Your mixed signals is what is throwing me off as well. You slam me for doing what is considered a "Drive-by". However, your Joe Wilson thread was in fact the same thing (Title to thread: What do you think will happen to Joe Wilson. Followed by the youtube video without a single comment on what you think should happen etc).. The only obvious thought that comes to mind is you took a chance to slam me and put me in my place..
***************************
As for the post:
My opinion is that these things to happen often and ACRON is an organization that is radical and does things shady. Now they may have baited this ACORN office but why? Is it because these types of businesses take place there and it was easy to catch them doing this? It only adds to my issues I have with ACRON in general..

I can see why conservatives love ACORN. The nature of the institution and the people it tries to serve guarantee there will be plenty of stories like this one that can be used to rally the self-righteous conservative base.

I posted a link to YouTube and included an innocuous question asking people their opinion without sharing mine. You posted your opinion and a link to a site that shares your opinion in a way that didn't invite anyone to share their opinion. There's a huge difference, brother.Originally posted by dabrockster View PostYou have to understand. Your mixed signals is what is throwing me off as well. Your post and video may have been innocuous. But, would you have posted it if it was a Democrat yelling at the Repub. President?Originally posted by Tim View PostI posted a link to YouTube and included an innocuous question asking people their opinion without sharing mine. I do not think so, much like mine it was not a bi-partisan type of post, but doing what a good little soldier should do (much like my post)..
Not so different imo...

I think that the characterization of ACORN as a corrupt organization is a blatant and self serving (for conservatives) misrepresentation of what ACORN is. It is an association of independent organizations that often depend heavily on community volunteers, and which serve and occasionally employ poor people, who come with poor people problems.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostCorrupt organizations do corrupt things. ACORN, as an umbrella organization, facilitates communication and cooperation between independent organizations. To call ACORN itself corrupt would be like judging CUF based only on the posts of Hallelujah.
And then there is the issue of employing poor people. Poverty breeds desperation, and desperation gives rise to poor choices. ACORN will always have a few stories that can easily be cherry picked to cast aspersions on the whole organization.
Since ACORN predominantly serves minority communities, there is also an aspect of racism to the blatant mischaracterization of ACORN.

Why? Can't the overlaying structure be corrupt? Aren't there individuals who oversee this process of cooperation, and aren't individuals susceptible to corruption?ACORN, as an umbrella organization, facilitates communication and cooperation between independent organizations. Fair enough. My prior questions still stand. And then there is the issue of employing poor people. Poverty breeds desperation, and desperation gives rise to poor choices. ACORN will always have a few stories that can easily be cherry picked to cast aspersions on the whole organization.
And you finish strong with the race card. A weak ending to an otherwise good post.Since ACORN predominantly serves minority communities, there is also an aspect of racism to the blatant mischaracterization of ACORN.

FYI: In my profession, I serve those who are the most vulnerable of all populations. I beleive the welfare and social programs we ahve were meant for those indivduals..
I think there is a fine line between helping those (To lift them up out of poverty) and using it as an instrument to feed off of each other and lose sight of what their mission really is.. I understand the advocate side of things but at times they take a partisan approach which has negatively effected their creditability and what they are trying to accomplish.

You can read for yourself. From the ACORN web site:An association of independent organizations that come together to do what?
Since 1970, ACORN has been building community organizations that are committed to social and economic justice, and won victories on thousands of issues of concern to our members, through direct action, negotiation, legislative advocacy and voter participation. ACORN helps those who have historically been locked out become powerful players in our democratic system.
Of course an overlaying structure can be corrupt. This is the conservative argument against ACORN. But the evidence that is presented never speaks to grand structural corruption. Look at the voter fraud accusations. Some poor people working for low wages in a voter registration drive signed up some obviously fake names in order to pad their pocket with a bit of extra spending money, and that is used to cast aspersions on ACORN as an institution? This is the kind of conservative mischaracterization I am talking about. Why? Can't the overlaying structure be corrupt? Aren't there individuals who oversee this process of cooperation, and aren't individuals susceptible to corruption?
I'm just sharing my opinion here. I think attacking ACORN provides good cover for attacking the people ACORN attempts to serve. It would be one thing if the attacks were legit. But all of the attacks that I have seen so far, including this one that Dabrockster brings up, attempt to malign ACORN by pointing to poor choices made by individuals who work and volunteer under ACORN. It would be like judging Mormonism based on the behavior of its members. And you finish strong with the race card. A weak ending to an otherwise good post.
